Off-Season Hypothetical: KD to the 76ers

If the Suns get bounced in the first round of the playoffs or even in the play-in potentially... they won't have many avenues to improve and maybe KD would start asking out. In that case, the Suns would use it as an opportunity to improve around Devin Booker.

They could really improve their depth with a trade to Philly because they could absorb his salary outright and Morey would love to land KD alongside Maxey and Embiid.

Philadelphia 76ers get:
Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns get:
Paul Reed
2024 76ers First Round Draft Pick
2026 Lowest of Rockets/Clippers/Thunder/76ers First Round Draft Pick
2028 Earlier of Clippers/76ers First Round Draft Pick
2029 Unprotected 76ers First Round Draft Pick (conveys 2 years after 2027 1st goes to Brooklyn)
2031 Unprotected 76ers First Round Draft Pick (conveys only if 2029 1st conveys 2 years prior otherwise becomes 2031 76ers 2nd Round Draft Pick)

Why: Morey gets his star player
Why: They get an insane opportunity to rebuild around Booker even in the second apron by turning those picks into up to $51 Million in total salary since they aren't aggregating salary with another player. This is where I ask the following question.

1. Is OP enough for KD given the cap savings?
2. What teams would Phoenix bring in to turn those picks into $51 Million in total returning salary or less?

Nassir Little and a pick for Jevon Carter and Alex Caruso (done as 2 separate trades... Little for Carter with the pick/Caruso portion including in OP KD trade as to not aggregate salary)

Pick for DFS

Absorb John Collins in full for free?

Re-sign Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale

Kevin Durant $51,179,021
Tyrese Maxey Cap Hold $13,031,760

Total Salary $115,626,719
Cap Holds $10,519,416
Cap Space $15,853,865

If Phx gets bounced early, is that evidence that KD is not worth this type of package anymore? unprotected picks in a likely post/end of Embiid era?

What if there's no one better available? Maybe something like just the '24 first for LaVine and Caruso is better?

Philly re-signs Buddy Hield with their space and Batum using the cap MLE... essentially replacing Tobias with KD in the starting line-up.

A third team would be needed at time of trade. Suns would not trade KD for picks package.

Philly does not have the assets to get KD. Suns won’t trade him for a pick package and if they did OKC and Memphis are in better positions to do the trade.

How do those teams match the salary?

If Detroit is willing to give Harris 35 mil on a 3 year contract.. Or an FVV contract..

Can you do

KD to Philly
Reed, 4 firsts to Phoenix
Harris, 2nds to Detroit

That would allow Philly to maintain their cap holds for the free agents they want to keep? They’d be hard capped due to taking in over 100% in a trade but could keep a few of Meltob, Buddy, Nico, KJM, etc.

Phoenix’s side is looking for a fourth team. And I don’t know who that is.

Here are 3 options:

1) Kuzma
To Wiz: Some of the Philly picks (Reed?)

To Suns: Kuzma + Remaining Philly picks

2) Grant
To Blaz: Some of Philly picks (Reed?)

To Suns: Grant + Remaining Philly picks (could add Brogdon)

And least likely…

3) Markkanen
To Jazz: All Philly picks + Reed

To Suns: Markkanen + Anyone Jazz want moved/dumped

…but Philly could just acquire Markkanen if Ainge thinks they have enough value.

Suns aren't trading KD for Kuzma and a cpl picks. That's laughable....and silly. Grant is also a bad call but Kuz?

Lol. We'll take the picks and use them later rather then either 1 of those scenarios.

And that is fair. But you do realize that ‘later’ the players available are…wait for it…Kuzma, Grant, and if still available Markkanen (and Ainge likes your Philly picks).

Suns would have to wait until 25 trade deadline or 25 offseason for a different crop of win-now players to become ‘available’. No way they wait that long.

Someone comes available every trade deadline that no one thought would be available. Suns can hold out. Personally, I think that IF Durant gets traded, OKC would be the team. Depending on how they do in the playoffs they might be 1 piece away from getting the chip. For KD, it means going full circle and winning a title for his 1st team. Which I thin he'd be fine with.

Either way, the picks are better spent on rookies if we cant move them for players rather than acquiring Kuz or Jermai Grant.

Kevin Durant no longer has this kind of value. It’s obvious. He hasn’t made the Suns better. They are actually not as good as last year.

Another option in that chain would be DJM

I know it’s ignoring Beal being in Phoenix.. But I think you mostly have to ignore Beal and hope he gives a big list of teams he’s willing to go to..

Would be kind of cute to work out the Beal trade with the KD trade in order to try and create a KD TPE in case a KAT or other 30+ mil type player becomes available..

He would be the best player on the trade market... would Philly prefer to give less for LaVine instead?

I love this idea but Harris would need to be paid very highly by Detroit... would they do it?

It’s not really that much higher than they’d have to give to get him to sign there anyways IMO?

Could be 35 front loaded, similar to CJM.. could be third year unguarantee?

But I think they expect to give him 30 a year in order to get him to sign in Detroit.. this just adds a bit more but gets some small value to get it done.
