Portland-Phoenix

Post#1 » by Jimmy103 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 2:33 am

Amare Stoudamire, Boris Diaw
for
LaMarcus Aldridge, Rudy Fernandez, Jarryd Bayless, Raef LaFrentz

Suns
PG- Steve Nash/Jarryd Bayless
SG- LeAndro Barbosa/Rudy Fernandez
SF- Grant Hill
PF- LaMarcus Aldridge
C- Shaquille O'Neal

Trailblazers
PG- Steve Blake
SG- Brandon Roy
SF- Travis Outlaw
PF- Amare Stoudamire
C- Greg Oden

Big risk for Portland because if those 3 pan out they will have paid a steep price for Amare. However, having a Big Three of Roy/Amare/Oden would be VERY impressive and more of a guaranteed level of success.

Portland probably declines.

Their guard depth is really weak after this deal and the frontcourt has gotten worse defensively. I don't mean to beat Amare up along tired platitudes but I'm not convinced he wouldn't just slack off on man-to-man defense with the expectation that Oden helps him on every play.

Phoenix also declines. Offensively, Amare is more of a force than Aldridge and elicits more respect than Aldridge does. If Phoenix wants to win a playoff series next year I don't think they can just usurp Portland's approach of stockpiling no-name young talent.

Yikes.

As tempting as an Amare/Oden frontcourt is, it's nowhere near tempting enough to add in Rudy, Bayless and LaFrentz's expiring contract while also having to take on the vastly overpaid Diaw.

And as others have said, unless the Suns decide to blow things up and rebuild, this probably isn't the wisest move for them either.

This is funny we trade back Phx's pick to them? I think I will keep our dept as I feel that the upgrade from LMA to Amare is not worth the price of Rudy, who the whole world saw what he can do now and Bayless who was universally rated as a top 5 talent pick.

I can't wait to see our Rudy-Roy-Bayless backcourt put them with TO and LMA and we would have a great run-n-gun team to change pace. Or go Rudy, Roy, Frye, LMA and Oden for a big team, the posibilities are endless but all of them are pretty great.

Just think our current 2nd team of

Bayless
Rudy
TO
Frye
Pryz

would of been better than our starting teams of just 4-5 years ago.

BTW we pass for the aforementioned reasons.

Blazers would never ever do this.

Doesn't really help either team accomplish their goals. If PHX wants to win now, they keep Amare, simple as that. And Portland is going to let their team grow together.

I think LMA's range and personality are a better combination with Oden than Amare.

And of course, throwing in all the other stuff kills it.

Why would the Suns trade an all-star in Amare for that? Aldridge maybe an okay player but the
others equal a salary dump - and I don't care about the potential of Bayless or Fernandez
ask Harold Minor, Dennis Hopson or the infamous LaRue Martin how far potential took them.

+1

No need for either fanbase to get up at arms over the other team declining. It's just not good for either team.

Yeah, I really hope Aldridge may be an okay player someday.

Aldridge might be a better compliment to Shaq, but how many minutes will Shaq play? Giving up Bayless and Rudy pushes this deal a bit too far for Portland and I like the chemistry that the team is already showing with Aldridge.
