Honestly, I think I'd rather trade Marion for a C than UD for a C.

Re: mia/orl/sac
I think one of our problems is that we don't have enough shooters around Wade. We've always had a shooter at SF...until this year. That's part of the reason why we signed James Jones in the offseason when we had more pressing needs at C. I think the plan has probably always been to trade Marion, and I think that might have already been accomplished had James Jones not gotten hurt in the offseason. Once he gets back, I'd look for a Marion trade.

Kings say yes, but I don't think they have any roster room to do a 3 for 1 trade.

I think there is a discrepancy in what the heat would want for marion and what other teams would be willing to offer for him- that's why it might be a better idea to trade haslem. I actually like this deal but I'd wait to here what Orl fans have to say about it.

Why not just cut the Kings in the deal and do a straight deal with Orlando?

I think the point of the proposal was to get us (the heat) a center. If we trade with Orlando we certainly aren't getting their C. The deal revolves around Miller being sent to MIA, how can you cut the Kings out?

I can't see ORL trading that much for UD, a pick AND having to absorb Banks?

I don't think it'd be too hard to get Orlando to agree to that. Udonis Haslem might very well be Stan Van Gundy's favorite player from his 2004-2005 squad. And he's the ideal PF to put next to Dwight. I was actually more worried about Sacramento than I was Orlando, who I think would probably do anything outside of Nelson+Turk+Lewis+Dwight for Haslem.

Re: mia/orl/sac
My point is Miami is still rebuilding. This current roster and even doing the trade puts them at best a 1st round exit in the playoffs. If we cut the Kings in the deal, we dump Banks contract and we get the pick. Use Reddick and Cook in another trade. Brad is better than Battier but the latter can play center too as a stop gap at center.Wade2k6 wrote:I think the point of the proposal was to get us (the heat) a center. I agree with Vintage, while Stan likes Haslem, I dont think they will agree to the deal. Maybe if the pick is not included.

Re: mia/orl/sac
wow i couldnt disagree more...a late 1st is useless to us and we are a playoff caliber team on the rise...brad miller may not vault us past orl, bos, cle but it would solidify us as a legit playoff team and once beasley develops completely, add FA we can be at the top of the east IMO...hoops23 either we completely disagree on everything or you choose to go against anything i propose

I always loved the idea of having Haslem on our team. The only problems are that the Heat might not be willing to help a division rival. IIRC, the Heat didn't let SVG go to us for free, right? I think we had to give up a 2nd rounder (granted, it was no big deal to us).
If the Kings don't have roster space to make this trade, how about if they cut Battie and have him sign back to us? I would definitely do this deal, then.

baller, we need picks! we're in a rebuilding phase, probly wont have a 1st round pick this year, and Haslem doesn't fit long-term if we want to develop Beasley as our PF. I wouldn't even want to keep Cook or JJ, I'd try and move them to a team wanting what they bring for picks (and exp fillers)

As far as I understand, teams can't cut players to make space until after the deal is done. Thus, the Kings would have to cut someone like Quincy Douby or Sheldon Williams to make space, THEN cut Battie. That's a lot of money to eat. This deal would have to be streamlined a bit before it could be done, IMO.
In fact, you can have Sac just send Douby to Orlando (since they're upgrading him for Reddick), and I think it works under the checker still.
