Raps/Heats (Marion/JON)

Post#1 » by Kosta » Mon Jan 5, 2009 5:32 am

Raps send Jermaine O'neal

to the Heat

for

Shawn Marion

Raps create cap space earlier here, get back a rebounding/defensive Sf they sorely need, this opens up the C spot for good to Bargnani. The Heat can start Beasley again and get a real big man in the middle again, no offense to Joel Anthony who has filled in nicely.

HEATS

O'neal
Haslem
Beasley
Wade
Chalmers

Raps

Bargnani
Bosh
Marion
Parker
Calderon

Miami needs to send Banks out with Marion. Otherwise, this trade costs us 7 million this year in luxury tax and even more next year in luxury tax. Trading a healthy Marion for a hurt JO and paying the tax simply isn't worth it. Additionally, Beasley hasn't played a second of SF all year long. That's not to say he can't, but his defense is most likely much better against PFs.

why in the world would toronto want marion who's going to jet for nothing? cap space is not really enticing given the fact that cap space in 09 means a lot less than cap space in 10

And Kapono is an absolute deal killer. The only player on your roster that gets us to swallow that contract is Chris Bosh (not that you'd trade him)...

The original deal JO for Marion... is rejected by Toronto.

JO is playing better then Marion.
JO expires next season which is more valuable.

Miami will have to antee up more talent back to us, or take back a bad contract (Kapono is essentailly the only one) to get this deal to happen

Miami contends that Marion playing is better than JO not playing, and that Marion expiring is better than JO making 23 million next year. Because of that, we're the team that wants compensation lol.

Toronto contents that Marion will bolt Toronto if traded here. Toronto contents that when healthy JO has been more productive then Marion this year. Toronto contents that both team want to maintain flexibilty for 2010. Toronto contents that which ever team ends up with Marion, might be forced to lose their 2010 flexibily due to signings of replacement(s) this offseason. Toronto also contents the fact that JO will be the biggest prize for teams looking for cap space the following year, in the biggest FA class in recent years... as such Toronto will be expecting compensation ;)
