New Jersey/Philadelphia - Brand gets moved

Post#1 » by Vindicater » Fri Feb 13, 2009 5:10 am

New Jersey Trade:

Bobby Simmons
Stromile Swift
Chris Douglas Roberts
2009 #1 pick

Philadelphia Trade:

Elton Brand
Willie Green

Conclusions:

New Jersey: Add Brand to Carter/Harris/Yi/Brooks next year and you have a winning combination. Unlike in Philadelphia Brand will fit into the system the Nets have. Green can be a sparkplug off the bench on offense.

Philadephia: Brand is just not the guy they need. He requires a slow down offense that allows him to work down in the post. Either they trade Iggy or they trade Brand. In this trade they are able to get an expiring contract in Swift. A solid Vet in Bobby SImmons who expires after next season. A young prospect in Roberts and another young prospect in the #1 pick. This is a hard pill to swallow because it says the brand signing was a mistake, but at least it puts them back to zero in terms of salary cap space.

Thoughts?
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

1. I can't see anyone bailing the Sixers out on hand until he's healthy.
2. Since as you said Brand "requires a slow down offense," he'd be a very questionable fit in NJ.

Unfortunately Ed Stefanski is head over heels in love with Brand so I don't think the Sixers do this. As for whether I would do it or not, while I don't know how Brand really fits in with a young, uptempo team... I do know that I don't want to face him within the division unless we're getting some great in return.

You know, I saw the title of this thread and said gross, but injured on a bad contract or not, this could possibly be too good a deal for NJ to pass up, even with the extreme risk.
The pick would absolutley have to be lotto protected though.

Haha, no from the Nets. No to adding post-2010 salary, in the form of Brand or Green. No to trading our 1st (we're a REBUILDING team). No to trading CDR. Just no.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

as much as i wanna keep rebuilding this is getting a former all-star for basically nothing...if it kills the 2010 cap plan i would have to say no, but this seems like junk (although i do like CDR) to give up for one of the best players in the NBA when healthy

If he's healthy, the deal makes no sense from Philly's side.

The Sixers will be content with Elton Brand in the upcoming season, I am pretty sure.

I'm pretty sure they won't be.
Even if he completely turns it around and stays healthy, he just doesn't fit with Philly's style.
If they can dump him for one 1st round pick or a young guy they should.
They'll get back the cap room and recoup the pick hey sent to Minny.
It's not like they gave anything else up to gethim, so really nothing lost.
In hidsight, if I'm NJ, I don't think I take on the risk of this deal.
