Lakers Point Guard Situation
LA needs one more piece after they resign Odom... a PG to go with Fisher and take over next year when he retires: Here are the pieces, or combination of pieces. LA can take on a player under multi-year deal if necessary.
Player/$$ 2010/term
Farmar/1.95/rookie expire or extend
Morrison/5.26/2010
Vujacic/5.00/2011
Powell/0.96/2010
Mbenga/0.96/2010
Elonu/none yet/rights
2nd rd 2010 Memphis
2nd rd 2010 LA
2nd rd 2011 NY
2nd rd 2011 Charlotte
2nd rd 2011 LA
Anyone?

Re: Lakers Point Guard Situation
The Lakers don't need the traditional PG like other Teams....they need a PG that can hit clutch shots and move the ball when needed. Given their SalaryCap situation, there isn't as much of a need to trade for one.....it's probably going to be easy to find one on the Market for cheap in the 2010-2011 FA market that'd be willing to get paid to stand in the corner and wide-open 3pt shot.
BTW....what's wrong with Farmar?

I always thought Charlie Bell would make a good triangle point guard with his ability to d up and get the hell out of Kobes way. I realise with the contract though a deal might be a little tough.

There is a vague, unconfirmed rumor that the Lakers and Bucks are talking trades. Bucks wanting ending contracts. Lakers fans are hoping for Ramon Sessions but there's no reason for Milwaukee to do that.

If the Bucks are wanting expirings I highly doubt the rumor is for Sessions considering we could let him walk for nothing. Nobody knows their views on Sessions 100% though, maybe they like Farmar more. I for one would find a new team to root for if they traded Sessions for Farmar and filler (Morrison?). If we somehow did a Morrison for Bell type deal though I wouldn't hate it, but wouldn't that thrilled.

Re: Lakers Point Guard Situation
lakers need a backup pg with quickness and the ability to hit the three. farmar doesn't shoot the three with consistency and he has trouble guarding quick, small guards like aaron brooks, cp3, tj ford etc. and now that we don't have ariza who actually guarded the pg position sometimes, this might be a problem...
as second fiddle to fish, i want a pg with a good 3 pt shooting percentage. steve blake? possibly doable? not the best defender, but whatever...

Re: Lakers Point Guard Situation
It doesn't have to be a great shooting percentage, but a solid one yes, with decent passing, and at least a good defender.
Charlie Bell somewhat fits that mold. He's likely available as well so finding a deal is not that hard to do. A Morrison for Bell deal would be good for both teams, but I'm not 100% sure it would work cap-wise. The Lakers would be pleased as they lose 1.4m in salary, 2.8m gained by the luxury tax and then they can trade Farmar for a pick if they like saving another 3.8m. That 6.6m will probably leave them a very well balanced capable roster.

Not 100% sure but I do believe a Bell for Morrison deal would actually work straight up. Maybe for saving you that 2.8 million next year you give us one of those seconds as well ?
Edit - Bucks could also add Stoudamire's partially(?) unguaranteed salary to a deal as well.

Bell for Morrison straight up doesn't work but it does if you add Salim Stoudamire. But I would think the Bucks would have to add a draft pick or some cash in the deal becaue Bell's deal has 2 more years after this one.

I like it. Bell is a solid defender, and fits more of the shooters role necessary in that system.

EXACTLY. Brown will end up playing the largest percentage of PG minutes if he resigns. He will be the new B Shaw! He is a big PG like Phil likes, he is super athletic, a good defender and is a solid 3 point shooter. He also doesn't hesitate like Farmar. Give him this summer and all of training camp to get more familiar with the system, people forget he was acquired mid season. Phil hates to make trades mid season because it is usually very hard for players to get acclimated to the triangle during the season.
Lakers champs in 2010!!!!
I wonder what east beast they will have to conquer in the finals though? BOS? CLE? ORL?

I would actually think that Beno Udrih would make a fine triangle point guard! (Obviously, his contract is not well received by many). I don't expect many trade proposals but just a random thought by me haha.

Yeah I really think a deal would be solid but Skiles has a man crush on Bell so who knows.

This has to be priority number 2 for LA behind Odom. Without Odom find a better PG is useless. I don't see any reason Odom won't be back in the fold within the coming weeks.
