Raptors/76ers/Kings: Trying A Kevin Martin Deal

Post#1 » by Rapsobsessed7 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 8:18 pm

now im trying a deal to get Kevin Martin to Toronto. Dont flame me on this its just an idea that im going to throw out there and see if anyone likes it. If Philly or King fans dont like it thats fine by me but its just an idea.

Toronto Trades:
Jose Calderon $8,219,008
Amir Johnson $3,941,667
Marco Belinelli $1,547,640
Cash

Toronto Get:
Kevin Martin $9,680,170
Sergio Rodriguez $1,576,696

Raptors get their starting SG while keeping Derozan. They give up Belinelli and Amir but take this and run because Martin would help this team a great deal. And why were going to be the worst defensive team, might as well be the best offensive team, right?

Sacramento Trades:
Kevin Martin $9,680,170
Sergio Rodriguez $1,576,696
Kenny Thomas $8,775,000

Sacramento Gets:
Louis Williams $4,972,500
Amir Johnson $3,941,667
Marco Belinelli $1,547,640
Samuel Dalembert $12,025,694
Cash: Toronto

Kings get a bunch of players for Martin. Get their defensive C, get a young backup PF, a young PG and a young SG.

Philadelphia Trade:
Louis Williams $4,972,500
Samuel Dalembert $12,025,694

Philadelphia Gets:
Kenny Thomas $8,775,000
Jose Calderon $8,219,008

76ers basically get an expiring for Dalembert which is hard in this financial state so the sweetener is the Calderon/Williams swap. Maybe this isnt enough for them, maybe something needs to be tweaked, maybe its just not a good deal at all :P. I dont know ive heard some Philly fans (Youngcrev) say they would add a Williams/Jose swap for Dalembert expiring contracts so im just putting everything together. Save a total next season of 9 million dollars and once Iverson leaves they would run with Jose/Holiday at the PG spot.

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Fixed.

Thomas >>> Dalembert
Sergio >> Belinelli
Martin >>>>>>>> Lou Williams + Johnson

And then consider how horrible Evans & Williams would fit together. Easy, EASY no for the Kings.

I would say that this is closer compared to some of the other nonsense I've seen on the board, however I would agree with RPA in the idea that the Kings would likely pass.

Why does Toronto want Martin? They already have too many scorers that aren't good defenders.

PHI cuts out Toronto, and the Kings cut out everybody.

Would Philly really take on Calderon?

I've seen him headed there in a few trade proposals on this board...

The idea that Toronto could nab Kevin Martin is a stretch.
The idea that Toronto could nab Kevin Martin while keeping their top 3 assets is absurd.
The idea that Toronto could nab Kevin Martin while dumping Calderon and not using any picks, is insulting.

Yeah the problem with both of these teams from a Kings perspective is that for the most part, neither has anybody that really fits into what the team would be looking for in terms of skillset (Williams, Derozan, Iguodala, Bargnani), and the players that do fit with the needed skillset just aren't very good (Dalembert).

Probably not, at least not without some serious incentive. I like that he's a true point and can shoot the 3 at a good rate, but that contract is pretty ugly, as is his defense.

Agreed with everyone else. The package the Raptors give up is roughly good enough to bring Dalembert and something else to Toronto, but Martin? Absolutely not. And, as before, Philadelphia would see a Calderon for Williams swap as a downgrade. It's not appealing, and won't happen. I could see a three way deal sending Dalembert to Toronto, Calderon to somewhere that's looking for a PG, and expirings/2011 expirings to Philly, with possibly Jason Smith or something going out from Philly as well, but this isn't going to work.

I would agree, how the hell does Marco, Jose and Amir get you Kevin Martin? Even with Toronto's scorers I would take this deal and run. The Kings get dumped on hard in this deal

Generally speaking, Kings fan's on the board won't be happy / agree with any of the Kevin Martin trade proposals

When people put his value around Jose Calderon do you really blame us?

The thing is, most of the trades just don't take into account the needs or personnel of the Kings. Basically all you fans think "hey, I want Kevin Martin, what good but unwanted players can we trade for him"

Calderon is not a bad pg he is injured. Philly can use him in the princeton offence and they have enough defesnive players to cover his weakness. Jordan would gladly take Calderon over Williams.

Toronto
>>> Bargnani, Evans, Banks, Wright
<<< Dalembert, Martin, Ivey

Bargnani for Martin, plus Toronto takes Dalmebert's super-bad contract in exchange for a couple of smaller bad contracts.

Philly
>>> Dalembert, Ivey
<<< Thomas (expiring), Banks, Wright

Philly gets a lot of cap relief for Dalembert.

Sacramento
>>> Martin, Thomas (expiring)
<<< Bargnani, Evans

Sacramento gets a talented big in exchange for Martin, but has to soak up a little extra salary next year with Evans.

#1: Bargnani is an atrocious fit on the Kings
#2: At worst they have equal value. No way should the Kings have to take on extra salary in that swap.

This trade wouldn't happen, but I wonder what the Sixers and Kings would think about a Iggy--Martin swap. I would think Iggy has more value if for no other reason than his not injured every other game but...I think it probably would be good for both sides.

I don't think Evans & Iggy would work well together because of Iggy's poor outside shooting (to go along with Evans' poor outside shooting). The Sixers are having major issues (and have had for a while now) because they don't have anyone on the floor to stretch the defense. The Kings, with Iggy & Evans, would pretty much be the same.
