I think in this scenario, the Pistons would release Allen....so yes, he may be able to re-sign back with the Celtics....

Why would Pistons release Allen?

They wouldn't. This trade does nothing for Boston if they lose Allen.

Pistons make this deal for the cap space.....no reason to keep Allen on board with Rip/Gordon already here....

Yeah. It's not as if the Pistons owe stuff to Ray or Boston. Ray is paid some NASTY $$$ as is.

I doubt a buy out is anything but wasted cash for Detroit.

I can't see the pistons just releasing Ray Allen for nothing. From a value perspective, it just makes no sense to release a guy in Ray Allen who can still produce.

depending where they are at the trade deadline it could make more sense to realese him than to keep him.

Detroit is not going to contribute to Boston raising another banner by releasing Allen. If they traded for him they would keep him.

you'd have all by the balls when the buy out talks start if you out of the playoffs. Whats he care if he loses 3 to 4 mil on his contract since he'll be resigned 2.

So your willing to waste anywhere from 2-4 million in a buyout just so the odds of the celtics are lower??

if the purpouse is only to dump Prince contract, an easyer trade could be dealed:
Prince for
Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Marquis Daniels, J.R. Giddens, Shelden Williams
then, waive whoever you want and sign him to the C's

Exactly. the C's have no motivation to trade Allen and take back a contract like Maxiel.

Motivation: Prince would be a great role player for the Celtics.

I'd be fine with the original trade, maybe with the Pistons getting at least a young player or draft pick as well. And I'm sure the Pistons wouldn't just release Allen (since they would have to pay his full salary). They would get some kind of discount so Allen could get back to the Celtics. And as nauseating as it is to think of the Cletics getting another banner, this would help the Pistons rebuild very quickly - they would have a lottery pick and a lot of cap space to work with and would be back in the elite of the East next year.

For the C's to get Prince, they'd have to at least take Maxiell off the Piston's hands.
