Two teams rebuild, two teams contend (MIA/WASH/CLE/DET)

Post#1 » by Silvie Lysandra » Sun Jan 24, 2010 1:18 am

Wizards trade:

Antwan Jamison
Caron Butler
Javale McGee

Wizards get:

Jason Maxiell
Kwame Brown
Udonis Haslem
Jonas Jerebko
Quentin Richardson
Miami 1st round pick
Cleveland 1st round pick
Pick swap rights with Detroit

Cavaliers trade:

Shaquille O'Neal

Cavaliers get:

Richard Hamilton
Antwan Jamison

Pistons trade:

Richard Hamilton
Kwame Brown
Jason Maxiell
Jonas Jerebko

Pistons get:

Javale McGee
Shaquille O'Neal
Dorell Wright

Cavaliers trade:
Shaquille O'Neal

Cavaliers get:
Richard Hamilton
Antwan Jamison

Why for the Wizards? Reboots their cap situation in one fell swoop, and adds future assets, (though taking on Maxiell) as well as the chance to swap picks with Detroit.
Why for Detroit? Pretty much the same thing, except they get rid of worse contracts and bring in an arguably better prospect.
Why for the Heat? They are unlikely to land two max FAs to pair with Wade, so they get a very good running mate for this season's run, and make them a more attractive spot for Bosh or Amare to land.
Why for the Cavaliers? They get the best players in the deal, and go all in for a title this year to keep LeBron in Cleveland. At the same time, they retain enough talent to stay competitive (48-54 wins assuming their D stays solid) in case LeBron DOES leave.

If the point of the trade is to speed up Detroit's rebuilding then while the hell would they trade a rookie who has been great for them and swap for a lower draft pick. Very easy pass from the Pistons.
Count that baby and a foul!

My mistake, Cleveland was supposed to send Hickson to Detroit in this deal.

This was terrible for Cleveland even before this. Now it's just comical.

Am I missing something or is Miami giving players and not getting anyone?

Uh, so you don't want to get rid of a guy who has a -2.1 on/off who's a black hole on offense and a disaster on defense, and bring in a 22/8 player and a 19 ppg player with proven success who is coming on after a terrible start on a team that he doesn't fit at all?

Hamilton has sucked this year, yes, but he's a bad fit with Stuckey, and will be a better fit with LeBron, and definitely an upgrade over Parker.

Really, you're basically the favorites in the NBA with just Jamison, and if Hamilton works out then you're a dynasty assuming LBJ sticks around.

Also, Miami gets Butler.

yeah, bringing in two players who turn 32 and 34 within the next 6 months will REALLY build a dynasty :-?

No I don't want to trade Shaq at all. And, I'm willing to argue that you can't find a Cavs fan that'd be okay with trading Shaq.

Exactly.
Chaos whats up with giving up Haslem, Q, Wright, & a 1st round pick? What the hell is Miami getting?

Cause the only thing you will get free from us is Jones.

Whereas hanging onto a 37 year old will build one better? I agree that Cleveland wouldn't do this trade, but if the reason is age, WTF? If you let both Z and Shaq expire, you still won't have enough capspace to sign anyone of significance and retain LeBron. And the only way you get that space is if you revoke James' bird rights.

Yeah, doesn't make sense to trade Jerebko and swap picks in a rebuild. Back to the drawing board. ;-)

We'll take Daye or somebody; but without at least one prospect this is a pure cap-dump. This is an awful deal for the Wizards as is (we can conceivably get Kirilenko + NYK pick for Butler + James + McGee, and we can conceviably get at least Powe + a pick for Jamison.)

The pick swap thing honestly doesn't matter - Hamilton kills your chemistry, and we trade our two best players. I'd expect Detroit to play better without Rip than with him.

I will ask you again, why is Miami in this? What do we get out of this?

You get Caron Butler to help make a run this year, while still maintaining cap space to sign a max FA and Wade. You can agree that guys like Haslem and Q-Rich can be waived to come back later.

As for trading Shaq, are you that obsessed with stopping Dwight that you feel the need to have Shaq's fat ass on the bench? The Magic are a mess and are no threat to you, but Jamison alone makes you the favorites for the title, and if Rip returns to form, then it's icing on the cake.

Listen, just stop the Shaq trades. Every single Cavs fan would rather move Z for Jamison and keep Shaq instead of adding Rip Hamilton. Shaq helps us compete in the paint against Orlando and more importantly, LAL(he's pretty much turned Gasol/Bynum into soft scrubs in the Cleveland/Laker games so far this year).

Shaq's not getting traded, the Cavs are better with him and have a better chance at a title because of him.

You say he's been a disaster defensively...well, you're wrong.

You say he brings nothing offensively, well, wrong again. Obviously the numbers will be down, it's a big change from what we did last year and he's not the only thing in the starting line-up that's different, so obviously there's an adjustment period. All I know is that Shaq's "fat ass" is coming through for us on the basketball court(22pts tonight on 10 shots with a below average, even for him, night at the FT line)

Pat will not spend a penny of it's 2010 cap, till wade resigns, & Pat signs that other max player. Caron is a nice player but not a legit 2nd option. more of a 3rd.
