Blockbuster Deal - CHI/MEM/OKC/ORL

Post#1 » by Relentless88 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 10:09 pm

2010 Memphis First Rounder via Denver (#27)
2010 OKC Second Rounder (#50)

Orlando Trades:

Jameer Nelson
Marcin Gortat
JJ Reddick
Anthony Johnson

Orlando Receives:

Kirk Hinrich
Luol Deng

Memphis Trades:

Mike Conley
Steven Hunter
Marcus Williams
2010 Denver's First

Memphis Receives:

Jameer Nelson

Oklahoma City Trades:

Matt Harpring
2010 Second Round Pick

Oklahoma City Receives:

Marcin Gortat

-------------------------------------------

Why for Chicago?

Chicago clears their 2 most expensive and longest contracts in Deng/Hinrich to have the most cap space possible in a summer deemed as the best FA class in NBA history. With this trade Bulls get a good young point in Conley, a shooter they desperately need in Reddick, a couple picks, and A LOT of cap relief. Conley can be dealt elsewhere for a wing, if they don't need him. Bulls are then in a position to sign one of Wade/JJ? and one of Amare/Boozer/Bosh? to add to their core of Rose/Noah.

Imagine a lineup of

Rose
Wade?/JJ?
Salmons
Amare?/Boozer?/Bosh?
Noah

They start contending as soon as next season.

Why for Orlando?

The rich get richer. With a finally motivated Carter, and a team that looks like it's beginning to get its swagger back, they get even better by adding arguably one of the best defensive PGs in Hinrich and a very underrated SF in Deng.

Hinrich
Carter
Deng
Lewis
Howard

That team looks filthy, and probably becomes the team to beat in the east. Both players are also young, Deng at 25 and Hinrich at 28. Which means Orlando has a lot of good seasons ahead of them.

Why for Memphis?

They are a team people have been talking about as possibly grabbing the last seeds in the playoffs. Playoff experience, even a first round exit, would be a tremendous and valuable experience for a young core like them. Nelson is an upgrade over Conley, and is a good compliment to Mayo in the back court.

Nelson
Mayo
Gay
Randolph
Gasol

Why for Oklahoma City?

They're looking to upgrade at the C position, and do so by basically giving up no assets than an expiring and a late second. Gortat is underused in a team with the best C in the league. PER 36 he averages a double double with more than 2 blocks, and is a young talent to add to the core they have. They get better, and try and lock down a playoff spot in the west.

Westbrook
Thabo/Harden
Durant
Green
Gortat

Thoughts?

If the Bulls’ goal is going nuclear for maximum cap space, this is about as good a job as you’re going to do.

If it could be tweaked to bring back at least one semi-competent bench SF-type guy I think it would be even better.

You can take out Reddick/Johnson for Pietrus, but he isn't expiring.

Meh. If indeed we want to go balls out in 2010, you're not going to beat this. Salmons starts at the 3, Redick at the 2 and you make room for the legendary James Johnson at the backup 3 spot.

1. Rose, Conley, Williams
2. Redick, Brown, Pargo
3. Salmons, Johnson
4. Gibson, Thomas
5. Noah, Miller, Richard

It's definitely not as good as what we've got right now, but it puts a much larger emphasis on Salmons to blow up his stats a little so he opts out. Even if he doesn't, that's fine. Redick is the dead-eye shooter we need next to Rose and our backups are competent. Lastly, we pick up a couple picks with which to fill out the roster after hopefully getting 2 good/great free agents.

Cliff Levingstons thinks it would be a major selling point for Chicago if we could tell Wade, LeBron, Bosh, etc to come on down and bring a friend; Rose and Noah will be waiting.

Nelson is playing limited minutes right now, but he's one year from being an all-star. He's definitely an upgrade over Conley and brings something the Grizzlies don't have; playoff experience, and more importantly, finals experience.

That’s true, I guess once you do this you’re completely writing off this season anyway so you may as well play Johnson and see what he’s got.

Stepping out from my Bulls-centric view, I can see the rationale for all teams involved. 4 team trades aren’t easy to pull off without one team getting entirely hosed. I can see any of the teams not liking it for various reasons, but you’d be hard-pressed to say that anybody’s getting hosed.

Nope, Nelson is an injury prone shoot first pg that is having one of the worst seasons in his career, Conley is the perfect fit for Memphis as a pass first pg who is a good defender and can knock down the open j's. And the Grizz already have playoff experience with Steven Hunter and Jamaal Tinsley

Don’t say that in public. You’ll be mocked.

Additionally, I find this comment:

To be odd given your sig:

Passing is for people who can't score

Take out Memphis then since Jamal Tinsley will lead them to the promised land.

Nelson goes to the Lakers for Farmar/Morisson to the Bulls. Bulls also get both LA 2nds (42, 59). Early 2nds are more valuable than a late first anyway with the guaranteed contracts.

Mmm, irony.

The Bulls get a crapton of cap space this offseason, that's about it.
