I'd like the keep the Philly pick if we can. Think this package would work?

Joel to Toronto
Pittman to Houston
Calderon to Houston
Camby s&t to Miami.

Then we get a leftover at the end of free agency to never play.

I mean, Darryl Morey and Bryan Colangelo have easily been the 2 worst GMs in free agency so anything is a possibility but I wouldn't count on it.

Per Larry Coon (on taxes)...

Are teams really competing on a level playing field? Since the tax rate is different in the different states and Canada, don't the teams in a more "tax friendly" state have an advantage over the other teams?

Yes they do. For example, an offer from Orlando will provide a higher net income than the same offer from Los Angeles, because the player will play at least half his games in a state with no state income tax. But the advantage is not quite as large as you might expect, because most jurisdictions with NBA teams require visiting athletes to pay state income taxes (often called a "jock tax") for each "duty day" they spend there.

There is not a standard definition for a duty day, but it is generally considered to be any day the player spends in a particular jurisdiction, including for preseason, regular season and postseason games. For example, if there are 170 duty days in a season and a player plays five of those duty days in a state with a jock tax, then the player will pay state income taxes in that state based on 5/170 of his income.

Currently:

* Florida (Heat and Magic), Tennessee (Grizzlies) and Texas (Mavericks, Rockets and Spurs) have no state income tax.

* Florida (Heat and Magic), Ontario (Raptors), Tennessee (Grizzlies), Texas (Mavericks, Rockets and Spurs) and Washington D.C. (Wizards) do not make visiting athletes pay a jock tax.

* Illinois (Bulls) does not make visiting athletes pay a jock tax if they come from jurisdictions without a jock tax. However, Illinois does not credit its residents for jock taxes paid out of state, so Bulls players can be double-taxed for some road games.

So I just finished SAT tutoring. I saw I had like 5 pages to read and thought that something had went down.

This is interesting. So, Houston is willing to do a S&T for Camby if we get Allen for the mini MLE?

Dude, Ray left Miami without a commitment.

That should tell you all you need to know.

im over it, we shouldnt really expect Ray to come here... We'd be just as good even better with Camby/Lewis so i'm still optimistic we can do something really nice this offseason.

screw Ray lol it's going to be a heartwrenching decision with a typical cliche hollywood ending of choosing his Boston mates and beantown pride... only to eventually culminate in a 3rd consecutive playoff defeat to the Miami Heat. :)

He's not picking high school classes. He's choosing where he wants to play for the next few years. Of course he's gonna take more time to think on it

all you guys getting worked up over ray allen need to chill. the odds are stacked against us and it would require a great deal of emotional carnage to pry him loose from boston. don't get angry at a man who is by all accounts a good person and who is simply doing his do diligence by sussing out his best available options.

while it would certainly benefit us (the heat and its fans) for him to switch allegiances, it is and has always been a long shot. his interests are not our feelings or expectations. both ends of the crazy spectrum (overly negative [strengthnhonor] and overly cocky [miami316]) need to take a breath and realize we just won the **** championship. if that doesn't satisfy you and your fandom, you need to double down on therapy and get to the root of your unhappiness because ray allen's offseason plans are at best a cherry on top of what was an incredible year of basketball. if we snag him, amazing. if not, who gives a ****? riley will figure something out...

why are we letting this Celtic scrub ruin our championship off-season feeling? F ray.

I am one of them that never wanted or trusted him in the 1st place.

That means absolutely nothing. Ray has said from day 1 that the Celtics will have the last word. I swear your pessimism is really starting to get annoying.

Keeping it real is not being overly negative.

If Ray goes back to Boston, I can **** all over you right? We will see.

You called me crazy and insinuated therapy because I was "overly negative".

So if I was right all along about Ray not coming here, I can **** all over you for saying dumb things.

Eh, I'm honestly exhausted from arguing about this. I just don't have the energy for this. Let's just let the RayRay thing pan out how it pans out. Miami did its thing, now we just gotta wait. But instead of wait, we're tossing around other options and meeting other FA's. Let's just focus on that, there's nothing more we can do for Ray.

Is Howard retiring? I hope this man is coming off the books. What did we do about Curry? I can't remember whether we offered him another year or not. If both those guys are gone, are the only centers left in our rotation Bosh, Pittman, and Joel? If so, I really hope we get someone for that. Joel's contract kind of sucks, do we really want to give up Philly's pick & Joel for Camby though? It'll probably be 14-16ish, we seem to keep punting away any chance of this team getting younger. Two years from now the number of old dudes on this team is going to start catching up (remember Dywane will have had two more years of wear and tear). I just hope we don't completely sacrifice any chance at getting younger for a championship now.

Guys, let's not over do this. We are the 2012 NBA Champions for a reason. As long as we have our core role players, we'll be fine. We just got to see what small tweaks can work out and hopefully things will fall in. This Ray Allen chase is just divulging our greed, the samething that these guys preach in the locker room we can't get too high or too low is what we need.

Whether or not Allen ultimately signs with Miami is not the barometer of how seriously he considered signing with Miami. You're talking like its a done deal that he's going back to Boston. If it ends up being 51/49 in favor of Boston, and he ends up signing there, you still weren't right. Get over it.
