How big is DWade's shoe deal?

Post#1 » by JLei » Mon Apr 14, 2014 8:41 pm

Always wondered this.

Reports when it came out is he got a significant equity stake in Li-Ning. That's likely at least a percent or 2 from how the media reports made it out to be. Li Ning is a 6.6B market cap company. 1% puts his equity stake at $66M + whatever base salary (probably $5-10M)/ royalties they give him.

He might have the richest endorsement contract outside of Jordan/ Woods.

Lebron's Nike contract is much more clear. Base (probably similar to previous contract) + Royalties (3-5%) on his own line, likely $25-30M a year.

If Wade really is that rich maybe he does take a pay cut this offseason? Something to mull over but wondering if anyone knows more than what's out there on Google.

Well, I remember there were reports that Wade could eventually be the first basketball billionaire back when the dealing was out. That's hard to believe but either way, he's definitely getting a loaded check every quarter from Li-Ning and the prospect is pretty damn large.

People may rag on him for leaving Jordan due to the fact that Li-ning's shoes aren't all that pretty but Jordan weren't making any good looking shoes for him either. With Li-ning he's most likely getting 3x more than he did with Jordan, that will only multiply as the years go on. Seeing as how it's apparent that he only has about 2-3 years left at the MOST, securing himself financially was the best move for himself and his family.

Thus, he'll definitely take a paycut maybe in 10-13m range. Wade is set financially for the rest of his life, I can see him eventually being president/GM of the Heat in like 10 years.

his jordan shoes that they put out weren't that pretty at all. They were still good performance shoes.

This, what I remember was 10mil each for 10 years PLUS a percentage of ownership/sales.

At least 100 million $ plus significant equity stake.

That's what they said when he signed.

Would make Financial sense for him to opt out and get a 5 year contract at a lower rate.

He'll still be in the limelight of contenders/champions which'll boost his shoe sales for longer.

He should take less because he's only playing 2/3 of the time.

It's much more likely that there's a decimal in front of those numbers.

Initially when Li Ning joined the market, they were about 15/share and went as high as 33/share ( in 2010) and it tanked big time to less than 3/share
After signing wade, it raised up to as high as 7/share and it's sitting now at 5/share.

Sucks for those who lost billions in investing in this company. Ouch.

On 2nd thought, what he probably got was a percentage of sales of his "Way of Wade" brand, not a percentage of the company.

I remember reading that his agent/manager said that he received a significant equity stake in the company. Here's a paragraph on Forbes that mentions that he received an equity stake in the company http://www.forbes.com/profile/dwyane-wade/.
