Should we tank this year, try to lose as much as possible and get the highest pick possible?

Yes, the timing is right, it's the smart logical move.

I just watched Fury. 5 soldiers in a tank against hundreds of SS soldiers.

With our remaining schedule, we could be in the 10 worst teams in less than 2 weeks. We're closer to the tank than you guys would like to admit. I don't like how we write off the draft every year like teams don't develop through the draft or act like "the Heat isn't good at drafting so pass on tanking". Maybe we should start having someone else scouting draft prospects .

Running out of time and games to make the decision, can't get healthy, and in the meantime we're in no man's land, the horrible middle of missing the playoffs AND missing our top 10 protected pick.

My guess is we'll fight till the end but miss out on both. Oh well, can't be too upset - We've got some nice pieces for the future with Dragic, Whiteside, TJ, Beas. At least our debt to Philly will be over with.

I think they are going to ride this until the end unless we go in a 5-10 game losing streak.

Next few games will make or break us.

@ Toronto
vs Cleveland
vs Portland
vs Nuggets
@ Thunder
@ Bucks
@ Celtics
@ Hawks

That's a tough schedule. We need to win at least 4 of them. At least the Hornets have a few tough ones coming up.

We do not have to win 4 of these games. It would be nice, but it is not necessary. You need to look at the entire schedule for all the teams to see the problem more accurately.

This team is going to be up and down for the whole season barring another injury

like ... 2 losses... 3 wins... 2 losses, 2 wins. It will finish the season with .500 basketball. I wish this team would atleast FINISH their record at .500 with 41-41 but it doesnt seem likely. We would have to go on a tear of some sort.

Bucks schedule looks hard tho... they might drop. Indiana will get a spot, we will fight with the Hornets who are a good team bitten by injuries too.

I thought after Boston we were cooked, because the Hornets could go back up with a win agains the Kings and that didnt happen lol...

still that Boston game will haunt us, cause now Boston may start fighting for a spot thanks to us.

Tbh it doesn't look any easier. If we go badly over the next 6-8 games we will be trying to play catch up with a tough schedule. Need to win some of these tough games so that the tough games later on don't become must win games.

Honestly don't think Boston will challenge. Pacers and Bucks will make it. Its Heat v Hornets for 8th. I thought Nets could be a threat but after today and watching Bird/UD go off...

You should look at the other teams' schedules too. We all play a lot of the same opponents. The timing is just different. Over these 8 games, I predict 2-6, but then 7-3 to finish the year.

Here are the remaining opponents for all the teams fighting for the 7th and 8th slot:

Boston: Brooklyn, Charlotte, Cleveland (2), Detroit (2), Indianapolis (2), LA Clippers, Miami, Milwaukee (2), New York, OKC, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Toronto (2)

Brooklyn: Atlanta (2), Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland (2), LA Lakers, Milwaukee, New York, Indanapolis (2), Milwaukee, Minnesota, Orlando, Philadelphia, Portland, Toronto, Washington

Charlotte: Atlanta (2), Boston, Brooklyn, Chicago (2), Detroit (2), Houston, Indianapolis, LA Clippers, Miami, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Sacramento, Toronto (2), Utah, Washington

Detroit: Atlanta, Boston (2), Charlotte (2), Chicago (2), Cleveland, Indianapolis, Memphis, Miami (2), New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Portland, Toronto, Utah

Indianapolis: Boston (2), Brooklyn (2), Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, OKC, New York, Toronto, Washington (2)

Miami: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland (2), Denver, Detroit (2), Indianapolis, Milwaukee, OKC, Orlando, Philadelphia, Portland, San Antonio, Toronto (2)

Look at what happened to Detroit over the last few weeks. That throws a monkey-wrench into every projection. We have 2 games with Detroit left and they've lost 9 straight. Detroit was the hottest team in the East not long ago except for the Hawks and Cavaliers.

Ok, let's revisit the problem with that good friend website of all tankers:

http://www.tankathon.com/

Our draft pick is protected from 1-10. To guarantee a 10th pick, though, we have to finish 23rd in the league (or 8th worst), which now belongs to Denver: 24-41. We are 29-35 and need to lose 4 more games then them and they play in the Western Conference. Hmmmm... Conversely we could lose 6 more in the next 18 than Detroit who have lost 8 in a row. Or we could lose 7 more than Sacramento (again in the next 18 and they play most of their games against Western Conference teams). Or 8 more than Orlando, which doesn't seem likely, given Orlando is now at a pretty tough part of their schedule.

Sometimes it helps to have a different perspective. Orlando has lost 2 straight. They are 4-6 over the last 10 (since all star break). This is who they have left to play:

Boston (a)
Cleveland (h)
Houston (a)
Dallas (a)
Portland (h)
Denver (h)
Atlanta (h)
Detroit (h)
San Antonio (h)
Minnesota (a)
Milwaukee (a)
Chicago (h)
Toronto (h)
New York (h)
Miami (a)
Brookyn (a)

If the Heat tank and win 5 of the last 18 by default (5-13) They would still finish 4 games above Orlando that split the above schedule 9-9. Do you see any realm of possibility for such an occurrence?

I really think that unfortunately, all 41 of you who voted to tank (assuming you were really Heat fans because I doubt if all 41 are - I see you over there (!)) have no other choice but to start cheering for our team to win and then crush in post season. You should make it a habit.
