Heat Want Salary Flexibility To Meet With Kevin Durant In Free Agency

Image

The Miami Heat want the salary flexibility needed to get in a meeting with Kevin Durant when he enters free agency in 2016.

The Heat can have room for Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside and Durant, but only if Wade opts in for this year and gives them that flexibility by being a free agent in 2016.

Whiteside will also be a free agent in 2016 and will be on a low cap hold.

Miami Heat looking for flexibility from Dwyane Wade to make way for run at Kevin Durant

Dan Le Batard at the Miami Herald has an off-season article up on the Miami Heat's plans for the summer and beyond with specific focus on Dwyane Wade and his player options.

The Heat seems to want Wade to opt into his contract for next season at $16 million, then become a free agent and leave their and his future blank-check open. This will give the Heat the flexibility it craves to make a run at a player like Kevin Durant.

Pipe dream? Maybe.

But that's what Wade himself once told the Heat about his great friend LeBron James being in Miami. Miami wants to have the flexibility that gets Riley in a room with Durant.

The Heat can have room for Wade, Bosh, Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside and Durant ... but only if Wade opts in for this year and gives them that flexibility by being a free agent in 2016. This requires Wade to have a lot of trust, obviously, and the leap of faith that the team will take care of him in 2016.

I'm not sure if that's the kind of package deal that will woo Kevin Durant away from OKC. Wade and Bosh are both on the wrong side of 30 and Hassan Whiteside still needs a lot of maturing.

Liam Nelson voice "Goodluck".

Durant is going to DC, GS with Curry, or sticking it out in OKC with Westbrook. Miami this time literally has NO chance. Hey Durant come play with what might as well be a 40yo Wade, Ibabosh, Dragic, Whoside. Yea, not gonna happen.

As much as it pains me to say it, we will NEVER be as good as we were these past few years.

Just like the Bulls will never be as good as the Jordan years.

Are best years came and went. We will have decent and good to great teams. Contend here and there. Maybe win another ring sometime. But what we saw these past years, Miami will never be as good as we were ever again.

I would give a damn, but understand the chances are extremely low.

Quit crying, some franchises could be around for an entire century and not sniff the success we've had for the past decade.

Can't see Durant leaving GOATbrook and Iblocka to come here and play with our guys. Improbable but not impossible.

It'd probably take Whiteside propelling himself as arguably the best center in the nba out of nowhere for Durant to truly consider taking his talents to South Beach. Since a Wade is in his twilight years is hardly a sales pitch.

tired of chasing superstars... if we can hold on to Wade/Whiteside/LeGoran/Bosh then so be it til' the core is up to change. focus on the bench and young players RN

Can't see Durant coming here. Among many other reasons that have already be stated in this thread, I don't see him wanting to follow in the footsteps of LeBron by playing here in his prime. Don't let Wade walk for the near non-existant chance of signing Durant. Re-signing Whiteside should be the main priority of 2016.

In 2010, The Big 3 was always probable to me. KD isn't probable whatsoever. I see it as having a .01% chance of happening. That would be insane though... Dragic/Booker/KD/Bosh/Whiteside... wow.

I don't want anyone infected with the #BasedGodcurse

But for real, and this may sound selfish and wrong, but letting Wade walk in order to get Durant in '16 will be a huge blow and I don't want any part of that.

Throw in a couple draft picks from OKC's end.

What a crybaby b****post lmao.

Whether its Durant or another high-caliber free agent....the Heat NEEDS the flexibility in 2016 to add the last major piece.
