The funny thing is while Winslow has way more upside than Richardson, Richardson is actually the better player right now. He is 6'6 Guard that can run the point and is a good defender. He shot .798 from the line and .359 from 3 point range. I won't expect either Winslow or Richardson to be a great contributors next year but wouldn't be too surprise if Richardson performs on par with Winslow if we keep him around.

richardson spent 4 years in college cultuvating his game while Winslow is coming off his first year as a freshman (while winning a title)

These guys are just ready to contribute bottom line but if Winslow spent 4 years in college too he would be waaay better and much different

Ejoyed Josh's all round game. Great D, good handling skills and he knocked down a 3. Played well with Winslow. Looking like a keeper.

If he could get his foul troubles under control...will be a great player in future. :D

After 3 SL games I'm firmly on the Josh Richardson bandwagon.

I think we've got 2 good rookie keepers this draft and they play well together.

According to Riley, Richardson was slotted at 24 on the Heat's draft board. That is a 1st round grade. I think the Heat wants the opportunity to develop him so unless he royally screws this up, he is a safe bet to make the team.

J-Rich is shooting 50% from 3 in the first 5 games, and that's after throwing up 2 desperation shots in end of clock situations.

He keeps this up, he's a lock to stay. Strong defense and hitting 3's, that's what we need. Patrick Beverley redemption, finally.

Second-round pick Richardson a summer revelation for Heat

Ira Winderman | Sun Sentinel
July 12, 2015

When it comes to impressing in back-to-back games, Miami Heat second-round pick Josh Richardson might have set the new standard.

...It started with a 10 a.m. game Friday morning on the Orlando Magic's practice court at the Amway Center, with a game-high 18 points in the 91-68 victory over the Detroit Pistons that allowed the Heat to close the Orlando summer league at 5-0.

Then, Saturday night, in a game that began at 10:40 p.m. Eastern, Richardson once again led the Heat to victory, this time with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the Heat's 82-79 victory over the Utah Jazz at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus to open the Vegas summer league.

Two victories in games three time zones and 2,300 miles apart on consecutive nights...

..."Our scouting staff does a tremendous job evaluating talent. And this was a guy they had on the radar," Craig said of the Heat snaring Richardson with the No. 40 overall pick. "He was around in the second round. We were probably fortunate to get him when we did. I don't think his [college] team performed as well as they probably wanted. And a lot of the team not doing well probably had a little bit to do with him slipping in the draft, which was great for us.

"He's a tremendous player, on both sides of the floor. We were really happy surprised with how quickly he was able to evolve into the NBA game, particularly from the point-guard standpoint."

The versatility could go a long way toward a roster spot on the Heat's ever-tightening roster. Richardson started Friday's game at point guard. Saturday, he shifted to shooting guard with Shabazz Napier opening at point guard.

"He is able to get us into offense," Craig said of Richardson. "He is very comfortable making plays, getting into the paint, and he does that without turning the ball over, which there's a lot to be said about that."

Richardson had only one turnover in each of the past two games, despite playing in attack mode on both ends in going 29 minutes on Friday and 28 on Saturday in the 40-minute summer-length games.

"It's not even to show the coaches," Richardson said of his relentless motor. "That's just what I do. It's how I play every day. That's how I played four years in college, so I'm not going to change at all now."

He'll also leave it to the staff to decide his positional designation, if that is even necessary.

"I feel perfect running the point," he said. "I can run the point or the two. I'm a versatile player. Coach can throw me out there anywhere and I'll be all right."

Dude definitely got NBA level type defense

He can ball handle but he isnt good at really running a unit. More of a 3 and D potential back up PG, or SG, but if need be can penetrate to HELP create

Winslow and McBob need to help create for the 2nd unit more than whomever is back up PG.

Richardson's recovery on defense is fun to watch tho... Doesnt give up on players. Tenacious, heat definitely love those types of players even if they shoot up bricks

8 points in 5 minutes Vs Jazz, first game starting.

3-3 with 2 3 pointers + great defense...We got a steal.

This guy will take time. He won't get minutes when everyone is healthy. But great depth, cute upside.

Keep hitting that 3 and we'll see you soon

Rewatching Josh's highlights from the Raps game, I just loves this kid grit. People are sleeping on him for some reason.

He's just a winning player, I can see it all over him.

Gets steals, gets defalcations, gets blocks, very hard to score on. He's also getting in the paint with relative ease and showing some very good finishes, still growing in that area. he's very active and I feel he's totally underrated on here because of where he got picked. I see him as a real talent and he's going to be a very good 2 way player for a long time.

already a very good defender, on par with Justise. Yes, you heard me.

On offense he's still adjusting but if you look at the way he moves with the ball you can see he's going to score, just needs to keep working, keep improving his already solid jumper and get more comfeterable driving hard to the rim.

He needs all the minutes he could get, despite liking what Beno brings, J-rich is the future and we need to push him.

He's a swingman playing a PGs game. Move him to his natural position, and he becomes a lot more effective.

I'm excited about him too, but I think he needs more work. I know you won't agree, but if Goran and Beno are back, I'd send Richardson back to the D-League for a while. He needs to play enough so that he'll come back and hit the 3 and distribute passes better.

Target March.
