Kyrie Irving Plans Changes To Game To Avoid Injuries
SEP 28, 2015 4:46 PM

Kyrie Irving plans on altering his game to reduce the amount of injuries he has suffered throughout his career.

Irving spent part of the offseason reviewing film and looking for ways to avoid hard falls.

"For me it's about ... staying off the floor a little bit more," Irving said. "It's how can I be better in terms of avoiding injuries going to the basket and falling on the floor. I enjoy finishing around the big men, but honestly I'm trying to stay off the floor. I'm trying to get better in that aspect."

Irving has missed an average of 14 regular season games per season.

Part of the reason for his long injury list is his willingness to attack the basket and finish in traffic, two areas at which he excels.

"I don't play above the rim. I'm not a lot faster than anyone else," Irving said. "I'm not going to stop trying to get to the basket. I don't want to stay away, but in terms of going in there every single time -- especially with the centers and power forwards we have -- I don't have to do it every single time."

He's only 23…

I wonder what he'll look like after multiple deep playoff runs.

What I get from the statement is that he's already afraid of being hit and getting hard falls.

This guy's not a "Fall down 7, Stand up 8" type like our DWade. You can't play this game scared. You are more prone to injuries if you are so conscious of getting hurt on the hardwood. He may be already a damaged good physically and mentally.

D. Rose is dealing with the same thing. Over thinking the game never helps a player. Being scared to do something because you're afraid of getting hurt is a slippery slope.

Changing his game, moving out to the perimeter more rather than attacking is something you'd expect at 30 not 23… He should be 7 seasons and 20,000 minutes away from having to do that. We'll see how things work out for him.

Makes you value Wade even more. The way Wade plays so recklessly around the basket yet he managed to stay on the floor for most of his early career.

But i can't say i blame Irving. He has continued to miss portions of the season and missed again last season in not only the most important part of the season but the most important games of his career. I think a certain adjustment is needed, wether it's being a little more smarter/tactful, or sharpening his jump shots. Either way Irving is warrior and the penetration game is in his DNA....i predict his game won't change much.

They've never played us healthy either. Bosh missed the first, third, and fourth matchup and Wade missed the 2nd.

Dipo had the same type of injury I think, took him about 4-8 weeks? Can't recall. I'd say 2 months for Mr.Rose.

I don't see Rose missing so much time....remember the days when Bulls fans would come on this board and bombard us about him? Good times. Adding this to the list of absolutely bad D-Rose press makes me fell kinda sorry for him....because it really wasn't that long ago when he was tearing it up. But some of the things he's said recently....makes me wonder exactly where his head is at.

I've heard bulls fans tell me how much better Rose is than wade at EVERY step of his career. He's been praised by the media (along with Thibodeau's "strong defensive philosophy") so much it makes me sick (boy does the media love teams on the Eastern seaboard). He's been in more mvp conversations, been a bigger star in his brand's endorsements (wade was like 3rd in line at Jordan), and overall had more help on his team throughout his career. So forgive me for not feeling bad for him or his fanbase.

I agree fully with shanedude, we need to do our work to help our playoff seeding out as early as possible in the season, while everyone else is getting back to being healthy and figuring out their team chemistries.
