Re: So is this what we want?
I don't get it. If we all unified and decided as a whole that the realgm Heat board doesn't want to win games, what would change?
The people defending the streak are just making the best out of the hand life or in this case the Heat have dealt them. In the end we have no control over anything the team does, so making the best out of it or crying about it is all we can really do.
I joined team tank two weeks into the season. I cheered for us to lose most of the season, but we're winning now and it's been fun. Short sighted and meaningless? Maybe, but it's happening and nothings going to change the 9 straight that we've already won.

Well maybe 2018 draft won't be so bad and since Miami is now used having a slovenian point guard... He Will be 18 at the end of the month.

A couple wins was the difference between Wade and Hinrich
People have to decide if they want to be a playoff team or a great team.
If you remember that season, the only reason we were in position to draft Wade in the first place was because we beat Toronto in a throw away game. Had we lost, we'd have drafted Bosh. Oh the irony, am I right?

Winning needs winning. Tanking leads to people losing jobs because once you get started on the suck train, you tend to stay there. I'll trust Riley's method of team building over everyone else here...
As Hallstar has said, Bosh was not a bad player.
And I agree with you about trusting Riley's method. But that method has been obliterated.

Also when coming up with fantasy salaries to pay others, remember that Tyler Johnson will be earning 20 million soon.

Tyler Johnson is worth $20 mil. Best all-around player on the team and is only 24. Hard worker and coachable. If there's anyone on this roster to give that kind of money to, it's him.

I think it's more that we have to be aware of the teams tendencies to want to avoid tax payments unless we're paying for a championship team. Just look back at the moves we're made previously and it should seem pretty clear.
Also, we have to look at new contracts for Richardson and Winslow in the two off seasons following this one, so there's more to look at. We need to finish the reload this season ideally from a FA standpoint, but the following season is better from a drafting standpoint (2018 pick is top-7 protected, so a double tank could get us two top-5 picks in two good drafts - lots of bugs next year).
Things haven't quite lined up, but they're still manageable, and this offseason will make it clear as to what Riley is thinking.

I've officially parked the tank, but here's the thing. These guys will hit a rough patch again, and then the losses will start to pile up, and everyone will be like ohh damn, no playoffs and guess where we will be then? No mans land. Too bad to make the playoffs and too good to tank, never want to be there. Unless we make some trades for some legit players, we will be praying for other teams to lose while we damn near have to be perfect. Ain't happening.

I'm more looking for a clear direction. I thought we had the sneaky tank going on, then we hit our straps and now that's been blown out of he water and we're in no mans land now. Either this keeps up and we make the PO, or the air comes out of the tyres and we end up sneaking back into the top-10 (somewhere around the 8 mark at best) thanks to some timely injuries.
It's been a strange streak, it's blown the full-on tank out of the water. Riley could have shipped our Waiter or Dragic, but it would look bad trading players in the middle of the streak - perhaps he was waiting for the losses to come back before pulling the trigger.
Then there's the "we always compete" way of thinking that says "get them help now, trade for a PF". But there aren't many great fits on the block that can be had for what we're peddling. Unless we give up some combo of Winslow/Richardson/pick swap. I would rather see both Winslow & Richardson stay and Ellington be gone - long term that makes more sense to me. Also I feel that Winslow will get enough of his offence together to be better value as a starter over McGruder. So if we can upgrade Babbitt using Williams/pick swap then shouldn't we be looking to do that? That is if winning & making the PO is actually the aim.

its totally remarkable how our fan base is trying to justify this stupid streak.... if any of the players inside the top 5 picks turn out to be all star caliber this will be one of the worst seasons in heat history

Try to look at it from a different perspective. The other half of the fan base is trying to justify losing on purpose in a competitive sport.
You said it yourself.. IF any of those players become an all star. What if they don't?

Can't think of a time where not a single top 5 draftee didn't become a star. Lol.
The only way we could "lose on purpose" is by trading away good players. Hassan is in his prime, that'd be a waste of his prime years. All we really can do is let the chips fall where they may. Just really hard to nab any good free agents since anyone good enough to be #1 or #2 would be leaving a LOT of money on the table. Bosh will be off the books and that extra money will be lining Dion's and JJ's pockets.
We are in no man's land, today. We aren't good enough to make the playoffs or the second round, and we aren't bad enough to net the highest chance at drafting a superstar unless someone gets hurt.

Porter has been stepping up, but I'll give you that. The next is the year 2000. So no, not exactly wrapping the earth 3 times... Every other year aside from those two has had stars in the top 5 since the turn of the century. Hence why "Can't think of a time where not a single top 5 draftee didn't become a star"; it happened twice in 16 years.
