1.5 is pretty short, so leg strength is a key here. Do sprints, lunges, squats, and anything else that will build up strength in your legs.

You should be doing these things as a part of your workout, sure. But the best way to train for a 1.5 mile run is...to run.

Yeah, I'm doing that. But, should I just keep running 1.5s and attempt to lower my time, or should I mix in some longer runs or some shorter more intense runs? Runs with inclines? Etc.

There are lots of different thoughts on how to approach it.

Personally, I would do something like this:

Monday: 2 mile run (attempt to do this at your desired pace for the 1.5 mile run)

Tuesday: Off

Wed: 20 minute HIIT/Interval Training. Nor sure how familiar you are with this, but it's essentially switching off between brisk walking/jogging and an all out sprint. Great to do this on a track if possible, but it can be done on a treadmill if you can easily toggle between the two speeds. Simply put, this is on of the fastest ways to improve cardio endurance.

Thur: Off

Fri: 2 mile run

Sat Off

Sun: HIIT training.

After a few weeks, your 1.5 mile run will be a breeze.

I'm not a big runner but absolutely vary it. You should run your desired distance/pace about a third of the time. A third of the time you should double the time it takes you to do your desired distance and but at a lower pace. And every 3rd or 4th running day you should do sprints intervals. High intensity training will improve your overall lung and heart efficiency and will help with your conditioning on longer runs.

Example:
Day one- run your mile and a half obviously try to keep improving your time
Day two- run/elliptical/or even incline walk 3 miles at a lower pace, get your body used to having an elevated heart rate for long periods.
Day three- sprint intervals. Push hard for 15-60 seconds and then recover for 60-120 seconds, repeat for about 10-15 minutes.

So I started a weekly w/o of running up stairs at my friend's office building. Once straight -20 floors. and then once breaking it up half-way.

Extremely tough, but I am getting a good workout of it? 1st time I did it my legs were jello and couldn't even walk back down.

Bump

Finally purchased a bench press for home and it's a game changer. I lift at the gym, but now I can press at home which is going to increase my time under the weight substantially. No tv + bench press = results

For the last 5 months I've adjusted my diet and set some general daily target caps:

Calories 1800
Fat (g) 30
Sugar (g) 30
Carbs (g) 80
Protein (g) 250

That's not for everybody, but I'm now 5 months through my transformation and I'm on target to complete the project by the end of the year. I'm playing ball 5/6 days per week, lifting and staying disciplined with my diet.

I'm a big advocate for BodySpace: http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/ to keep track of progress and stay accountable.

Good luck to all making the change. I'm also becoming an Eric Thomas junkie

Any of you guys take supplements or anything?

I've recently started taking C-4 (pre-workout), IGF-2, and my usual multivitamin. After a week of being on the IGF-2, results are starting to show. I'd highly recommend both products.

Never heard of IGF2. What type of supp is it? I'm thinking about doing a cycle of pink magic. Anyone have any feedback? Right now I'm stacking Jack3d pre, modern bcaa during and post workout, and isopure mass 2x a day.

I use Isopure Zero Carb for my protein powder. For cuts, I'm using Cellucor Super HD. Love both products.

Here's a full review on it with all it's benefits:
http://www.a1supplements.com/IGF-2-240- ... 16511.html

I got mine from buy.com for $45 with free shipping. 240 pills is a one month supply (you take 4 in the morning, 2 before you workout, and 2 before you go to bed). The results are remarkable though. I was originally planning on taking HGHUp, but read that IGF-2 is worlds better.

I was also planning on taking Jack3d, but read too many horror stories about loss of sleep with that, including a couple buddies of mine. C4 has worked great for me. And is pretty tasty.

I'm thinking about stopping the C4 though and taking Neovar (pill form of pure creatine). Anyone know anything about that?

I'll probably give that a shot after I'm done with this Pink Magic. I have tried a ton of pre workouts but Jack3d is the only thing that consistently works for me. Go with Blue Rasberry. I haven't had sleep problems but if you do USPlabs powerful helps with recovery and is a great sleep aid.
