Hey, i turned 40 and am definitely behind in the technological curve. That said, part of it is by choice for me, especially when it comes to cellphones.

I see people like my kid, her boyfriend/friends, my sister, and others i know who nearly all seem like near slaves to their phones and i just have no interest in that. For example, i took my daughter and her boyfriend to a Brewers game last year they really wanted to attend, i think it was Nyger Morgan bobblehead night. They both must have spent 3/4 of the game playing with their phones texting and who knows what. Hell, i seriously question if she can go more than 5 minutes without taking out her phone for some reason and might even go through actual physical/mental withdrawals if her phone was taken away for say a month. .

FWIW, i'm not bashing her and so many others out there today who are constantly doing something on their phones. To each their own. I just have no interest in that at all. I have only a plain ass cell phone, never text, and have a 250 minute limit on my cell phone plan which i get for free. Given i rarely talk long on the phone, especially when i'm out and about, i usually don't end up using those 250 minutes.

This probably makes me seem like an old fart living in the past, but i don't care. Beyond having my cell phone on me in case i need to make a call when out or someone needs to get in touch with me, i don't want or need a phone. I guess if i'm waiting for an appointment or something like that, being able to go online would be nice, but i read a lot and generally bring a book that i'm reading to those places.

Not since the Megaupload crackdown. From what my brother tells me it's mostly back, but since I started using the VPN to protect myself while torrenting that's pretty much all I use.

I live in NC so I don't need a VPN to watch the Brewers or Bucks games. I also have access to ESPN3 and BTN2GO I can watch almost any Marquette or Wisconsin game as well. I miss about 6 live Brewers games and 2 Bucks games, but I end up going to some of those live anyway

Since the NFL doesn't have any kind of streaming service, I just use a pirated stream. They are easy to find and sometimes it can get a bit frustrating because you aren't sure if Finley, Jennings, or Driver caught the ball because 80, 88, and 85 look so similar. Since the Packers are pretty good, I can watch a lot of them over the air. But I'm not huge into having perfect picture so it's not for everyone. Give it a try with the NBA playoffs. Only MLB and the Big Ten network games are really hard to find. And I promise, no one wants free sex in your area.

I don't really watch dramas or comedies or anything like that so it was easy to cut the cord.

I would recommend to try to go without the Sunday Ticket unless you have commitments that force you to DVR a game. I am free Sunday's so I just watch it live.

I remember looking into something like this a few years ago so I could get league pass and Netflix which was popular at the time, but now we have international league pass (with no restrictions) and our archaic download limits are largely a thing of the past so anything I want to watch I can just download.

Realistically the only thing I can't get at the moment that I'd like is live TV from the US and the UK, basically just throwing channels from both countries onto my own TV. I can probably stream them individually but the quality is never high enough. If there was a cost effective way to do this I'd be all over it.

Whereabouts in Greenfield? I wanted to do the same thing a couple months ago, but when I called AT&T they said they don't offer service in my area. I find it annoying because I see AT&T vans all the time driving around my neighborhood and I always get offers in the mail. I'm off Coldspring/51st.

How many people actually watch 1,500 channels or whatever the hell it is that they give you now? Almost everyone I know watches 10, MAYBE 20 channels... yet you have to pay for all of them.

Yea, getting rid of cable was an awesome decision. I thought I'd miss it, but quickly realized that 90% of the stuff I watched on there was crap. Save like 100 bucks a month, and spend my time NOT watching crap on tv. Win win, at least for my situation.

Same here. I'll never, EVER have cable again... unless they offer an option that lets me just pick what I want for a reduced cost.

We cut the cord aver 3 years ago. Determined most of what we watched was available over the air. After getting a digital tuner to pull in the stations, we determined that the over the air TV broadcasts had a much better picture than what we were getting from cable. I am out of market, so I could stream Bucks or Brewers games if I wanted, but with two small kids I don't have that much time that makes it worth my money to pay for the service. I get about half the Packers games over the air. I think for Sunday Ticket streaming you still need to pay for the service from direct TV. Don't miss cable at all. Kids like watching streaming Netflix TV shows. I typically watch less than 5 hours of TV per week. I watched more when I had cable.

For those of you who are somewhat dependent on Hulu:

Hulu, which attracted 31 million unique users in March under a free-for-all model, is taking its first steps to change to a model where viewers will have to prove they are a pay-TV customer to watch their favorite shows, according to sources.

In fact, the move by Hulu toward the new model — called authentication because viewers would have to log in with their cable or satellite TV account number — was behind the move last week by Providence Equity Partners to cash out of Hulu after five years, these sources said.

One thing I've noticed that's pretty sweet with regards to MLB.tv is that the broadcast comes through quicker online than it does over satellite. Maybe that's of minor importance to most but if you're following along on the boards or on Twitter it's pretty sweet.

Quick but cool note.

An untethered jailbreak was released today. You can now jailbreak all of your latest iOS devices including the iPhone 4S, iPad 3 and Apple TV.

I've been waiting months for this because it's give me a chance to test MLB At Bat on my iPad with a spoofed IP.

I jailbroke my iPad in a matter of minutes and using Cydia, installed Location Spoofer. I choose a location out in New York and fired up MLB At Bat. It immediately found my NY location and let me watch any out of market game. Boom. Skrillex.

This was big. MLB At Bat and the NBA equivalent use GPS to determine where you're watching games. Using VPNs to change your location won't help you. You need an app like Location Spoofer to fool your iOS device.

This is how I'll primarily watch the Brewers and Bucks since I like to play a videogame or watch TV while the games are on. When I'd rather watch them on the big screen, there are screen mirroring apps for jailbroken devices.

Please don't steal my movie when it's released!

I'm going to try doing this when my contract is up in November. I am not sure how well it will work, though. I watch A LOT of cable. But saving $1200 per year (probably more like $800ish when you factor in At Bat, League Pass, Hulu or Netflix) would be awesome.

Been without cable for a number of years now and without a TV for about 2.5 years. Don't miss them at all.

So I just called Time Warner to "cancel" my cable and internet for U-Verse, hoping I'd get a lower monthly bill or some extra channels out of it. First person took my info and then transferred me to "retention". The woman I spoke with there offered nothing. Simply told me the closest place to turn in my cable box, modem, and remote. I specifically told her I was leaving because got a cheaper offer from AT&T. Will they try to call me at another time, or is that it?

Wouldn't even go back to Time Warner even if they offered you a better deal. U-Verse craps all over Time Warner.

You probably need to be more clear in threatening to move or being angry about your service/price. My girlfriend has called twice in the last year to bitch about our prices. Here in Minneapolis, we have Comcast basic service, which doesn't include AMC. That was her main point in wanting a reduced price or AMC thrown in for free.

First time she got HBO/Cinemax free for a year. Second time she got Showtime free for a year. It's not a reduced price or AMC, but I love it. They also gave us AMC on demand...so we can watch all my favorite shows the next day. Again, not the same thing but we got a good deal when it's all said and done.
