The break even point for three point shooting (in terms of it being a good shot) is .333. Jennings has cleared that comfortably at almost two makes a game. Does he need to improve on last year? Yes. Ellis is not a 3 point threat. If I'm guarding him I'm letting him take that shot all day.

lol... i have. you need to.

last 3 years for monta have seen much higher volume with about 1.5 makes per game
his %'s in gs.....
.338
.360
.321 (at gs).. he fell off a cliff here but its probably not indicative of his shot from what weve seen just this preseason

jennings %'s
.374
.323
.332

take jennings rookie flash out..... he hasnt even hit your own .333 number either of the last 2 years. ellis has hit it 2 out the last 3 years. come on man.

last 2 years comparison..... and this includes montas horrific debut late last season in milwaukee.

monta ellis
138 games
.343 3pt%
1.44 makes/ game

brandon jennings
129 games
.328 3 pt%
1.75 makes/ game

fwiw... just his gs numbers over the last 2 were 1.59 makes/ game at .349. clearly the guy can score from long distance now. hopefully montas 7-15 start this preseason is indicative of things to come as well.

Actually Jennings' .374 in his rookie year is misleading. He made exactly half of his 3-pointers at the beginning of the season (Oct/Nov), but fell way off for the rest of the year.

I was afraid the Bucks would pressure Monta to take fewer 3s, but roughly speaking, the more threes he takes the higher percentage he makes. -Fewer long 2s, more 3s (& layups and getting fouled and offensive rebounds and assists) = Allstar?

That really isn't that close considering volume, and Jennings is probably not done improving either considering he just turned 23.

kind of an invalid argument considering jennings numbers are skewed by his first year and hes been worse ever since

"Skewed by his first year" three years into an NBA career? What? Really? Maybe if his 3ptFG% for the next 5 years is 32, 33, 33, 32, 32 you can make that sort of statement. But usually young players improve as their careers unfold.

And I think I read yesterday where someone said Jennings has "regressed" on defense since his first year. Really? No he hasn't. Sometimes I have no idea what people are watching.

yep. really. if anything i should have just said his record has been skewed by his first 16 games thru november of his rookie year.

you throw that goofy start out and his numbers have been...
107-312....at .342.... over 66 games
98-303.... at .323... over 63 games
129-388... at .332... over 66 games

thats 334-1003 over the last 195 games of his career for a 3pt% of .3330009. ask luke what that percentage means for him if he misses his first 3 of the upcoming season.

of course i wouldnt insist he isnt capable of improving. im just saying that for now the guys greatest strength offensively hasnt been better than monta ellis over the same period. statiscally there is no case to say monta cant shoot the 3, or shouldnt shoot the 3..... if you think jennings should.
