2012 Fantasy Basketball

Postby DocHoliday on Thu Sep 06, 2012 10:23 am

Yahoo is finally back up for the season
http://basketball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nba

I am running the Justice League once again and sent the invites before Yahoo took the site down last week. Currently looking for a few GMs that haven't signed back up and may have changed email addys.

If for whatever reason you aren't returning just let me know. For everyone that has returned be sure to look over the changes as they are significant starting with the Auction Draft this year, which I think gives everyone the opportunity to grab the top players instead of leaving it to a random selection by the computer. Also I am switching over to each week counting as one win for the season (just like football). So if you win the CATs for the week whether its 9-0 or 5-4 it counts as one win on the season with the number of CATs won as a tie-breaker. This allows more diverse teams to still be competitive and successful, which means key injuries might hurt less or teams that aren't able to get the top players can still win thru strategery. Also the standings should be closer and teams won't be out of the playoff hunt by midseason, so in a nutshell it creates parity. Lastly, while there will still be a limit on total moves for the regular season, I am going to allow up to 2 moves per week in the playoffs. Aside from that yahoo has finally offered reseed the championship bracket automatically so the highest seeds always play the lowest seeds this year, but I still don't think they offer the consolation bracket for leagues of more than 12 teams. Good luck everyone, I am really looking forward to the season.

You don't want more than 12 teams.

I just wish everyone could enjoy the ride. I see both sides believe me. Seed and situation never concern me. It's in or out. That's all

Actually I've run the league with as many as 18 teams, because of the format and the smaller starting roster size it works out, but I think 14 teams is ideal in this league. I've been apart of the league since 2007, and I took it over from Reed in 2009 as he started to flirt with retirement. It's easily my favorite format of any fantasy sport and it's become ultra competitive as I'm sure the other GMs would attest.

You guys were smart to go to the auction draft. We did that over 15 years ago and we've never even considered going back. Not one person has even suggested it. Everyone has equal access to all the players and how smart you are at drafting is more important than some random number determining your draft order. The auction can end up being a big game of poker with lots of bluffing and strategy involved. You have the choice of going with a few high priced stars and trying to fill the team out with cheap bargains or you can avoid the stars and go with a more balanced team. You can try and spend early when guys are holding back or you can sit on cash for a long time and hope to pick up a bunch of guys cheap at the end when the other guys are low on cash. The situation is constantly changing so you have to be able to think on your feet.If you are new to it you're going to love it.

:dontknow: I would like to join if InsideOut....declines.

If strategy is involved and it takes some thinking...then I would love it this year. This year should be awesome for the NBA in Fantasy Basketball. If you know your stuff you can do well.

Loads of intriguing players in various formats not goofed up by the strike of last year. This might be the best year for Fantasy Basketball ever, or in years.

I like MLB better then all of them, but the NBA should be rockin because to win you will have to know what you are doing not just take the best named player.

Sweet, I had sent you an email a few weeks ago DF and since I hadn't seen any response I had assumed you were out for whatever reason. Glad you're back.

Sent out invites for those that played in Realgm Fantasy Hoops 2011 last year. MBBOT if anyone doesn't rejoin, you can have a spot. I fully expect you to draft Marshon Brooks in the first round.

Already signed up.

Thanks for the invite.

I'm drafting Tobias Harris in the 1st round.
