The Coaches Poll was released yesterday. Wisconsin starts out at #21 and Marquette receives 8 votes which would put them at #36. Five B1G teams ranked in the top 25, with 3 in the top 5. I think five is about the right number to have in the top 25, but I think the top of the conference is overrated with three in the top 5.

The looming question this year is, "Can Mbakwe petition for a 7th year?"

Yeah, it's starting to get a little ridiculous with him. I used to be a huge fan of his, but it's getting to the point where I'll be happy when he's finally moved on. The team doesn't need him, we're as deep as we've been since I've been a fan. This year's success will depend largely on the development of Andre Hollins more than anything.

Marquette is now in the lead for JaJuan Johnson, consesus Top 100 player (SG). Also have Jeol Embiid in this weekend. If they end up with those 2 guys, they will have a Top 3 recruiting class.

With an already impressive recruiting class already lined up for 2013, Marquette coach Buzz Williams added another huge piece Thursday when coveted high school shooting guard JaJuan Johnson committed to the Golden Eagles.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder from Memphis chose Marquette over Miami and Alabama and announced his choice at his school.

Johnson joins top 100 recruits small forward Deonte Burton and point guard Duane Wilson, as well as top junior college recruit power forward Jameel McKay, in Marquette's class of 2013.
FOX Sports national basketball recruiting analyst Evan Goodman tweeted that with Johnson “Buzz Williams and Marquette now have the fifth-best recruiting class in 2013.”

Just realized Marquette opens up against #4 OSU on Friday. It's part of the 2nd annual Carrier Classic where they play on the aircraft carrier.

Looking forward to this.

I root for Marquette and Wisconsin equally, but how can a "coveted high school" recruit choose Marquette over Alabama and Miami?

EDIT: Meant why no UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky. Heck no Memphis and he's from there neck of the woods.

B/c Alabama and Miami are terrible at basketball.

He's saying why would a "coveted" recruit not have offers from UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, etc.

As someone who just graduated from MU and has tons of debt, it really hurts to see a guy like Mayo just throw it away. He's 21.5 years old and has tutors and advisers on his side, yet he is unable to find a few communication and theater classes to keep above a 1.9? Adios.

The Carrier game just got a ton tougher.

Insert comment about Wisconsin's "boring" and "slow" team not having problems like this.

Wow. That's a shocker. You really have to almost TRY to get below a 2.0 if you're taking the right classes.
I've got a feeling it is gonna be a tough season for both UW and Marquette.
