GT:Bucks v. Wizards (Kohl v Grunfeld) "Dumb v. Dumber"

No Local TV (Only maybe Wizards TV if you have league pass)

I like doing the Wizard's game threads. As bad as it has been under Herb Kohl, the Wizards are just as bad over the past 30-years. I believe they have won over 45 games only once in that time span.

They won 54 games and made the Finals in 1978-79. Since they time, their second best record was 45-37 in the 2004-05 season. They have finished under .500 in 23 of the last 33 seasons. They are pretty analogous to the Bucks under Kohl except they have done it for a decade longer. There is a pattern of 20-30 win seasons and then a couple 43-39 years, then they go back down into the toilet bowl again.

Ernie Grunfeld took the reigns as GM on June 30, 2003. He's now been their GM for NINE years. And his results are about the same as what Kohl has been able to produce in that time stretch, save for those couple "glory years" of 45-wins with Arenas. Obviously Grunfeld learned from the master, working at the feet of Kohl for those five years from 1998-2003.

Wizards are 0-3. John Wall will not play. Out this month with injuries. Jamaal Crawford ready to light us up again. He has averaged 21.8 points in six career games against Milwaukee.

I'm cutting and pasting some of these from last years Wizards Game Thread for the 12/30/2011 game.

More Schadenfreude....

Here is a list of Grunfeld's transactions.

http://hoopshype.com/general_managers/e ... unfeld.htm

I had forgotten about trading the 5th overall pick in 2009 for Randy Foye and Mike Miller.

Here is our game thread from last December where we spent the first ten pages debating whether the Wizards or the Bucks had the better future. Maybe the Wizards have made the leap ahead of us by getting Brad Beal. But then again John Wall's value may have gone down the past year.

Crawford is a game time decision with a sore ankle

Jordan.

Be pretty bad to lose this one.

Yeah need to get this one with the Wizards down. Jennings called this one a "must win" :) Obviously playoffs is the goal for the team so these are the games you have to win in order to succeed at that goal. But then I'm reminded of that dud they played last year at Washington. The pessimist in me wants to say they lose, but if I had to put cash on it I would go with the Bucks due to Washington being without Wall and I think Nene too. Nene was the one that killed them last year.

I could definitely see this being one of those classic "look past/ahead" games.

Bucks will come out focused and get this win.

Remember when the Bucks signed Etan Thomas for the full MLE and Grunfeld matched?

Good memories.

I'm judging purely from a stat sheet but doesn't look like Okafor and Ariza have done much at all for these guys. It's kind of a rough looking roster right now. Seraphin looks to be their top guy at the moment and Beal isn't tearing it up yet. This would be a terrible loss if Jordan Crawford does or doesn't play.

Ariza has reportedly been a pouty little sob from what I've read.

Okafor has remained more professional, but the guy doesn't have much left to give.

I'm betting both of these guy don't finish the year with them if they can find takers.

Looks like Grunfeld did Karl a real solid when he took Nene off his hands too.

Fresh off a 5yr/$60M contract and dude has feet made of swiss cheese. Ouch.

Get that win tonight, put things back on the winning track and carry momentum home for the C's on Saturday.

The Wizards are awful, we should take this down no problem.

The Wizards really hurt themselves with the trades they made the last calender year or so. For the future and probably even this year because none of those vets are really very good anymore.

Another game to get Henson up to speed. When he gets there, the Bucks will rise. If Ersan continues to suck it up, I can see him losing the starting job to Henson at some point.

Gardner just tweeted

Bucks forward Drew Gooden will be inactive for tonight's game in Washington. Gooden said it is first time in 11-year career he is inactive.

Looking forward to this one! Too bad Wall is still so far away and we have yet to see Nene.

Bucks should be able to get this W with solid defense, rebounding and limited turnovers. Be nice to see the shot attempts spread around a bit more.

Hope they can start hot and put this one away early. Would love to see the young guys like Henson and Lamb get some good PT in a blowout and rest the starters for what's sure to be a battle with Boston tomorrow. Also would love Ersan to finally get rolling in this game. I think if you come out and stomp the Wizards, were back on track and can just chalk Wednesday's loss up to just an off night/bad matchup.

Oh I'm sure Skiles will still find a way to play him 30 minutes a night...

Everybody should be happy with this, including me. I would have to think the Bucks are trying to deal him. He isn't going to keep quiet all season with minimal to no playing time.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
