switch out any of top 9 teams in the east over to the west and their chances of making the playoffs drops slightly. the bottom of the east is worse, and the top of the west is a little better..... but besides that theres very little separation. the idea that some huge difference needs to be pointed out over and over is absurd.

I think the West is better at every respective seed than the East other than the #2 seed. That's not even counting teams like LA and Denver that are currently out of the playoffs in the West. Additionally, I only see one team in the East that can win a title. Lastly, the non playoff teams in the East sans Indiana are horrendous teams.

quit saying "i think". instead go look at the numbers.

the reality is that actual records dont support this huge difference. the overall records are largely the same between the conferences..... and thats not to mention that of the top 10 teams in the east, 8 have winning records against the west. that includes 4 out of the bottom 5 eastern teams being .500 or better against the west with a combined record of 23-17. again... thats teams 6-10 winning at that clip. facts just dont support you here.

It does appear like there will be nine teams in the East in the running for those eight spots, assuming that at some point Orlando starts to tank. And we will be right in there for one of those last spots. The plan is coming together.

Yeah, Hannibal Kohl loves it when his plan comes together :-?

The only fair way to compare East vs. West is probably interconference record, and that should probably wait until more games have been played in order to be representative.

My guess is that the head-to-head East v. West record will clearly favor the West, but definitely won't be as bad as it was a few times in the previous decade. The East was really, truly horrendous. I think some people have forgotten how bad it was.

This will perpetuate the vicious cycle whereby bad East teams are at a disadvantage when "competing" with bad West teams for top draft picks. A bad West team is virtually assured a bottom-7 record by virtue of SOS, and they have no temptation to even pretend to try to compete. They spend a few years buried in the cellar and before you know it, they're on the rise again. Look at OKC, Minny, LAC, and Memphis for example. Whereas equally bad East teams end up building their team around guys like Brandon frickin' Jennings and going for the 7th seed every year.

I really don't care much about the records at this point of the season. And as I stated, the West plays more games against the West so all their schedules are tougher. Look at the rosters of the teams. The Bucks are probably the 11th best team in the West at best. Do you really think they are better than the Nuggets or the Lakers?

This is not easy to do just by looking at the standings so I could be wrong, but the East is 58-82 against the West right now. That's not good, but I think the win pct. will improve as the year goes on.

I don't know how SOS plays into it, but clearly it's not a fair criteria until most east and west teams have played each other.

Yeah, probably can't look at that until the end of the season, just based on who has played who and where so far. To me, the fact you have teams like LA and Denver sitting outside the playoffs right now, with clear playoff rosters, shows how strong the West is.

id be more interested in the records of only the top 10 teams of each conference against each other. throw out any games played involving the b league teams in either conference(which the east certainly has a couple more).....thats more indicative of strength as far as how it would relate to any playoff capabilities.

That's hard to do, but I can tell you that the top 10 teams in the East are 48-37 against the entire West, while the top 10 teams in the West are 66-28 against the entire East.

ETA: It's possible, but pretty unlikely after this many games, that the top 10 West teams have simply benefitted from a scheduling quirk whereby they've drawn weak East teams more often than you'd expect.

just ran the numbers real quick. i threw out all games not against the bottom 5 in each league on both sides. totals from the top 10 vs the top 10.

knicks 3-3
miami 4-3
atl 4-3
chi 2-4
brk 1-4
bos 3-1
mil 0-3
phil 3-1
ind 1-6
orl 2-3

total was 23-31.... i guess 31-23 going the other way too. indy and us really hurt the cause.. wed be .500 east vs west without them figured in. i guess the positive out of it is that weve done a gd job with the other eastern conference top 10. weve gone 6-4 there so i guess 6-7 vs the top 20 in the league as it would be top 10 in each conference.

Why are you ignoring the fact that they are sitting outside the playoffs right now is because both teams have been performing well below expectations. The Lakers in particular have been awful and wouldn't be a playoff team in the East with the way they are playing right now.

That's really not what I'm debating. So where do you think the Bucks finish in the West? Are they a better team than the Nuggets and Lakers? The fact they have a better record now is irrelevant. Denver in particular has had a brutal schedule, the Bucks' has been mediocre.

Nope and I'm done with it. Anyways it's crazy that 11-9 is the best record we've had through 20 games since Stotts first year as our Head Coach.

Nope. Not even a little bit. Going into the season, every single sane Bucks fan knew this team wasn't going to contend for a title. Nobody needs a reminder that this organization is swimming in mediocrity. Trying to figure out where the Bucks would finish in the West is just another way to crap on the team after a win. Just another way to push an agenda. Beat the Lakers? They're under .500. Beat the Bulls? No Rose. Beat the Hornets? The best player has a unibrow. Beat the Cavs? Irving was sick. Lose to the Bobcats? Trade Ersan and kill Monta Ellis. Beat the Kings? The Bucks would be the 17 seed in the West. And on... and on... and on...
