My snub is Moonrise Kingdom. I really loved that movie in a way I in no way expected to.

I disliked Skyfall. Argo was easily the best of the year for me, over Lincoln.
Just saw Les Miserables. Not a big musical guy, but I really enjoyed it. A little long, but a real tearjerker.

I'm really hot and cold when it comes to Wes Anderson films. I really liked Rushmore but pretty much hated The Royal Tenenbaums which kept me from watching his films for years. I did watch Moonrise Kingdom and I thought it was OK. I enjoyed it well enough while I was watching it, but I have absolutely no desire to ever see it again. I honestly can't even really remember most of it.

This so much.
I went with a couple friends who are huge Wes Anderson fans with myself not really enjoying any of his movies except for Fantastic Mr. Fox. I haven't made any lists but Moonrise Kingdom might still be my favorite film of 2012.

Yea tonight is all about Fringe. I've to get caught up on the previous two episodes, then I'll settle in for the finale. I haven't liked this season much, but I'm anxious to see how it goes out.

Re: 2013 TV/Movie Thread
I forgot to mention over Christmas weekend I had my own "all about black history" weekend. I watched all 20 hours of ROOTS (which I had watched when it came out), and then an additional 12 hours of a mini series called QUEEN (never heard of it), the sequel to ROOTS.
In all, 32 hours of black history (great thing to do on a long winter weekened) and I was looking all over the place because I wanted to watch Amistad (again).
Anyways...Justified needs to pick up the pace. Season One with Bo Crowder and Season 3 with The Bennents, leaves this season anticipating yet not yet delivering, but has loads of potential in what diraction they want to go.

Moonrise Kingdom was a decent movie, but I can't see it as a best picture nominee. Wes Anderson has almost reached the point where his films are self parody.
Do it for Chuck

I didn't like Moonrise at all.
The has reached parody level for me and I couldn't take a minute seriously.
Was very disappointed.
I am looking forward to Rust & Bone with Marion Cottiliard (mmmmmm)....french film opening at Oriental this weekend.

Re: 2013 TV/Movie Thread
Just got back from seeing Silver Linings Playbook and I really loved it. It did get a little rom-comish a few times but maybe it caught me in a good mood because it didn't bother me. I would give an Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence for this before I would give one to Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty, she absolutely stole the movie.
The whole theater applauded at the end too which is never a bad sign.

Yep, just saw SLP myself and absolutely loved it. My crush on Jennifer Lawrence is at a disgustingly high level. Cooper and De Niro were fantastic too. Great date flick.

She's awesome, but it's close between her and Anna Kendricks.

I've always loved Anna Kendrick, but I think those tweets make me love her even more.

Re: 2013 TV/Movie Thread
Anybody else watch Downton Abbey?
I was pretty sick yesterday, so I watched a lot of TV (had the championship games on in the background), specifically Downton Abbey on Netflix. I ran through the whole first season. It's much better than I would have expected. It's like a cross between the Tudors and Mad Men without the sex and action of the Tudors. Looks like season 2 takes place during World War I which should be interesting. I'll probably use Amazon Prime to jump into season 2 tonight (Netflix only has season 1).

A lot of reviews are whining about your script being too sad to the point of being desensitized by the end. Don't you just love movie reviewers. They would have complained if you would have lightened it up a bit by saying you follow the same old script.

Went to see Rust & Bone at the Oriental this weekend.
Marion Cottiliard deserves an Oscar for her performance.
Very gripping, hauntingly beautiful tale of a woman who loses her legs in a terrible accident finding a reason to live again after she meets Ali a guy who is homeless with a son and is training to be a fighter. Sad, but uplifting, but not cheesy in any way.

I've watched it. Season 1 is legitimately good, but I thought it went a bit downhill after that.
