Anybody else watch Downton Abbey?

I was pretty sick yesterday, so I watched a lot of TV (had the championship games on in the background), specifically Downton Abbey on Netflix. I ran through the whole first season. It's much better than I would have expected. It's like a cross between the Tudors and Mad Men without the sex and action of the Tudors. Looks like season 2 takes place during World War I which should be interesting. I'll probably use Amazon Prime to jump into season 2 tonight (Netflix only has season 1).

A lot of reviews are whining about your script being too sad to the point of being desensitized by the end. Don't you just love movie reviewers. They would have complained if you would have lightened it up a bit by saying you follow the same old script.

Went to see Rust & Bone at the Oriental this weekend.

Marion Cottiliard deserves an Oscar for her performance.

Very gripping, hauntingly beautiful tale of a woman who loses her legs in a terrible accident finding a reason to live again after she meets Ali a guy who is homeless with a son and is training to be a fighter. Sad, but uplifting, but not cheesy in any way.

I've watched it. Season 1 is legitimately good, but I thought it went a bit downhill after that.

Also, I hope any fans of Shameless have been watching the new season. The first two episodes have been top notch.

The toughest thing about it is they've never read the script. Anybody who knows anything about filmmaking knows that things change, get moved around, shortened in the editing process. The script was very nuanced and some tough choices had to be made after filming that likely affected some things.

That said, if you believe the people who've been hitting me up on Twitter, some critics included, it's a crowd pleaser. I'll (finally) see for myself Friday.

Watched Silent Hill Revelation last night..I enjoyed this one more so than the first one. Only played a little bit of the games, but this movie seemed to capture the game moments better. Movie reminded me of a modern day Hellraiser

I thought The Following was interesting but I don't know if it's sustainable. I thought Alcatraz had an interesting concept too but that went astray fairly quickly and died after one season.

That's great. You should write it so he doesn't die, Basterds style.

So much of the writing and character in The Following was terrible last night. Overloaded exposition and nothing overly interesting thematically. I mean, a Poe obsessed serial killer is sort of the easy way out isn't it? Yeah, some good moments, but people watch TV for writing and characters. I could see this one taking a huge ratings drop week after week unless the secondary characters are reallllllly interesting.

Last night's Cougar Town was one of the funniest sitcom episodes I've ever seen. God that show is amazing.

This is my favorite part of the TV year. Shameless and Justified are back, The Walking Dead returns soon. After that Mad Men and Game of Thrones will on the same night, and then Breaking Bad and The Newsroom return!

Agree with most of that (I hate the Newsroom), especially the Mad Men and Game of Thrones lead in to Breaking Bad. 3 of the best shoes on TV right now.

In movie news: Looks like Abrams could be the director of the next Star Wars movie. Not my first choice, but definitely a safe, solid choice. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/24/ ... ium=social

Edit: Apparently Ben Affleck was considered for Star Wars as well, that would have been extremely interesting. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=99323
