Kind of shocked to see Les Mis get best pic Nom given the reviews. No best director Nom for affleck too. Obviously the academy has it out for him given The Town snub and now this.

Django was the first movie I've been compelled to see multiple times since The Dark Knight. Easily the most entertaining movie I've seen this year. Waltz in particular was spectacular.

The only movies I still haven't seen from the best picture noms are Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty. Wasn't all that impressed with Silver Linings, but that's probably influenced by my belief that Bradley Cooper is very overrated.

Silver Linings was a movie I crazy anticipated but ended up loathing because I couldn't get past the differences from the book. Performances were as good as advertised and Cooper, Lawrence and De Niro deserve the awards that are hopefully coming their way.

I enjoyed SLP, but I wasnt wowed by it. Cooper is a lot more likable without the douchey haircut. I thought the performances were great and it had some funny moments. I'd give it a solid 8.5/10

LA Confidential is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is absolutely outstanding on basically every level. Most importantly it is a phenomenal story.

It was absolutely tragic that Titanic won Best Picture instead of it. Absolutely tragic.

I thought Zero Dark Thirty was a good, but not great, movie.

Haven't seen SLP yet, but I did rewatch In the Name of the Father and it's still good.

That's why whenever possible, i read the book/books after seeing the movie first. In fact, my daughter's boyfriend has read all of the Game of Thrones books and offered to let me read them, but i passed mainly because i enjoy the TV series to much and don't want the books to sour me on the show.

One movie which was pretty true to the book was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Same for Silence of the Lambs.

I really respect writers and directors who take the license to interpret source material and tell the stories they want to tell over directors who faithfully adhere to a book that by its nature can not be visually represented. Kubrick would be an extreme example of the former. He basically used books as inspiration and then did what he wanted.

It's also interesting to me that many of the best movies based on books are based on pretty ordinary books.

Yea, I do too in many instances. But this was just lazy filmmaking.

I loved Django Unchained (and QT) but no way does this movie deserve to be nominated for Best Picture. Certainly not over Skyfall, which in my opinion is the biggest Oscar snub since The Dark Knight. Skyfall, for me, was the total package. Great acting, music, story, cinematography, action, and significance. I also felt that The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers were slightly snubbed. TDKR isn't as good as TDK but they could have given it a nominiation to honor the entire trilogy, like they did with Return of the King. Aside from the first half hour of TDKR, it's a fantastic movie. Avengers was well received by critics, loved by audiences, and it made a boatload of money. The dialouge is arguably as good as that in Django, it's hilarious, well acted/written, looks stunning, and is a rare example of a quality, big budget American blockbuster. Why does Les Mis get precedence over either of these movies? It wasn't particularly well received by critics, has some terrible singing from what I'm told, and it's essentially a remake.

Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty are the two best for me, followed by Argo. I haven't seen Amour, Beasts, or Life of Pi though but I doubt any of those would top those three.

My snub is Moonrise Kingdom. I really loved that movie in a way I in no way expected to.

I disliked Skyfall. Argo was easily the best of the year for me, over Lincoln.

Just saw Les Miserables. Not a big musical guy, but I really enjoyed it. A little long, but a real tearjerker.

I'm really hot and cold when it comes to Wes Anderson films. I really liked Rushmore but pretty much hated The Royal Tenenbaums which kept me from watching his films for years. I did watch Moonrise Kingdom and I thought it was OK. I enjoyed it well enough while I was watching it, but I have absolutely no desire to ever see it again. I honestly can't even really remember most of it.

This so much.

I went with a couple friends who are huge Wes Anderson fans with myself not really enjoying any of his movies except for Fantastic Mr. Fox. I haven't made any lists but Moonrise Kingdom might still be my favorite film of 2012.

Fringe finale is tonight. I'm about halfway through season 3 right now, enjoying it.
