Both for me too. I see him only as slight upgrade over Ellis as far as impact on team wins, leaving Bucks in same situation. And then that big contract leaves us in the same situation for 2-3 more years instead of hopefully only this year with Ellis. Again, my problem is the Bucks picking a direction with the team or lack-there-of, and trading for Gay still leaves us with no real direction and continued financial problems.
"Monta Ellis have it all" ~ from the Great One who's only difference from Wade is winning games, an all-star appearance, two championship rings, and two gold medals.

Don't understand this picking a direction thing. We have been trying to win this whole time, we just haven't committed to it by constructing a roster that makes sense and has a chance to actually do it.

We were trying to win with Bogut but never picked up any backup for him.

We have been trying to win with Jennings but we have consistently failed to put anyone on the court with him that can shoot a jump shot efficiently other than a stretch where Ersan did it.

Our problem isn't picking a direction, its constructing a roster where the parts fit together. Rudy Gay dramatically helps that.

Agreed. There's risk involved but like Lowe says this is the type of move a team like the Bucks needs to make to get an impact player. They're not getting one in the draft in all probability since they won't tank and FA isn't an option. This is the type of dice roll they need to make. I'm not comfortable with Gay's contract but I've always liked him and his game and I do think his efficiency will improve over the course of the season. Plus, he gives the Bucks a half-court go-to scorer which they badly need. I'm willing to roll the dice, especially if it means getting rid of Ellis.
Nothing will not break me.

This team does need to get happier. But to much $$$$$$ for me to get behind it.

I don't really see how Rudy Gay is an impact player.

I don't see Kohl signing off on any deal that brings in a contract that runs past this season, it just doesn't make sense.

I think we could be a good third team to facilitate a Gay trade though. Pick up a minor asset or two while giving up some of our unneeded stuff.

How is Rudy Gay different than Richard Jefferson?

Actually, Jefferson was probably slightly better when the Bucks traded for him than Rudy Gay is.

A fair bit better on D, a fair bit worse on offense. More overpaid.

LUKE23 wrote:Both, for me. He's not that efficient. And that's really the only type of player I'd target. I'd easily target Eric Gordon first, if they were looking to move him.

Yeah, I'd throw many more resources at the gamble known as Eric Gordon. I'd much rather pay $15mm a year for three seasons for him, injury and attitude issues than $17 million a year at Rudy Gay.

Age too, Jefferson was 28 when we traded for him. Gay is 26 I believe.

Second worst offense in the league.

Good point although Memphis would almost for sure say no to that even though they save a bit of cash.
