Who is better?

So much hype.. I think it's not close but this board is obsessed with stats so who knows.

It's not really close?

Jordan played before they moved the 3 pt line in and before the abolished the hand check. He'd score 40 a game now.

Go watch some of those old Bulls playoff games and count how many times he gets knocked to the floor. Guys would be ejected now if they did that to Bron.

I think it's Jordan and not close. But the lbj jock riding is at all time highs.

Brandon Jennings vs. Smush Parker is a better comparison imo.

Jennings has more hype, but Smush carried some horrific Laker teams and almost got them to the 2nd round in 2006 all by himself.

But on topic, this is something worth discussing once LeBron is retired. He's only 28 and having the best season of his career. His post game/jumper are getting better by the day, so his game is going to age much better than most people anticipated.

Jordan will probably be ahead in most people's minds regardless of what LeBron does, but a lot of that has to do with public perception, style, and the convergence of basketball and culture, which Jordan ignited. LeBron receives a lot of hate for his off the court actions, something Jordan never really experienced (although he would have had he played in the age of social media).

If you have to compare them now, you really should only consider Jordan's career up to age 28 - in which case I think they're pretty neck and neck. Jordan's next 5 seasons were unbelievable though, so LeBron would have to play as well as he has this year for at least that long, especially in the playoffs, to keep up with MJ.

This is a completely pointless discussion IMO until LeBron is nearing his mid-thirties.

Funny, but pretty much sums up the argument.

I'd like to cast a write in vote for David Lee.

He's the best player since Jordan. Top 3 talent NBA history: Jordan, LeBron, Kareem.

Unfair (moronic, actually) to downgrade LeBron for not having finished his career yet, but nonetheless his mindless haters do it.

Jordan's still slightly better though, imo. Hopefully LeBron can change that, cuz that would be fun to watch.

I'm actually surprised by the results so far. I thought maybe with how efficient Lebron's been that maybe he'd skew this poll a bit, but it looks like it's just ESPN trying to stir up drama that isn't there.

For my money, Kevin Durant is better than Lebron James anyhow.

If Karl Malone and Scottie Pippen had a baby it would be Lebron James..

If Kevin Garnett and Michael Jordan had a baby it would be Kevin Durant..

Durant > James

So Kobe has 5 rings... that's all the argument he needs right?

I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with determining who is better. They are both great and two of the best to ever lace them up.

They are also very different as players. Jordan was far more aggressive as a scorer and a lot of his value came from how dominant he was in that area and on the defensive end. While LeBron is a great scorer and defender, I believe more of his value comes from how incredible he is as a passer, how dominant he can be on the glass and how versatile he is on D.

I honestly think Magic and LeBron is a much better comparison player wise. Jordan played the game more like Kobe does... only he was a TON better.

There are about 10-15 guys who it doesn't really matter who you would take to start a team, they are all an amazing choice. Kareem, Jordan, LeBron, Bird, Magic, Barkley, Duncan, Oscar, Wilt, etc. Those guys are all incredible. It's exhausting trying to determine who is better. Truth is they are all great and great in different ways.

I voted Jordan, but I don't really think the gap between the two of them is that big at all... if there is a gap at all.

My reaction to Nebula's posts

...

Sees Nebula's post about rings being a factor for why Kobe is a better player

...

Then sees Nebula's post about Durant being better than LeBron

...

Considers the fact that LeBron has 1 ring and Durant has 0, beating him head-to-head to get that ring

...

Remembers that Nebula is a troll and puts him on ignore for good

The gap isn't HUGE, but it's very, very, clear. I can't even imagine the stupid numbers Jordan would put up if he played his entire career in the no hand checking era.
