Too big.

I see you liked the Golf r. Are you looking for a sedan or hot hatch?

Well let's do neither...Porsche Macan.

I have a ctsv now and the thing has been great so I imagine the ats is pretty good. I am considering getting a cls63amg or Audi rs7 soon but I am really holding out hope that Cadillac releases some news on the 2015 ctsv. They really need to add awd to it IMO to keep up on the 0-60 times. 600 hp is cool but not very useful in normal conditions when only two wheels are putting the power down. If they do add awd, I'll probably just get the new v. If not, then I will take the other two cars for a spin. I am also thinking about giving the tesla a shot too.

if you go to aprs website from my previous post.... look at what they can do with a simple flash on the supercharged s4's. awd and 400 horse with just a tune. you get a pulley upgrade and the thing picks up even more. s4's with the pulleys are trapping 115 in the 1/4. just an fyi if your looking for an immediate awd option.

I have one (2.5 years now - I was one of the first adopters of the new model), and love it for everything except...they are **** awful in snow. Like seriously.****.awful. Worst car I personally have driven in snow; I get comments from others regularly about how poorly it handles. It's too light on the front end and creates no traction. Snow tires help only minimally. I would not recommend one for a Midwestern winter. I'm getting a new car.

Mike, I was looking at the A3 also. If you test drive one (or get one), let me know what you think. I like that it's not a mid- or full-size sedan; I like smaller cars and don't have need for a large one. Really just want something about the same size as my Elantra, with AWD/4WD/otherwise handles snow well, and has nice tech gadgets.

intake, upgraded fuel pump, and tune.

best part is most vw dealerships could care less about modifications up to that level. some of them are even licensed apr dealers and will install the crap on your car when you buy it... that means I have 100% warranty if something breaks. the guys at my local dealership all ask me about it and think its cool when I bring it in. you don't experience that with other makes. vw is really supports their enthusiast roots by not squashing their aftermarket with warranty denials for mods.

apr is the biggest aftermarket tuning house for vw btw. think dinan/bmw or renntech/mb for comparison. if you go to apr's website look at apr stage 1+ and look at the dyno plots. theres alot more to be had with exhaust upgrades but thats where im stopping on my car. I got other rides I ripped the exhausts off of. this ones staying stock underneath so my wife will still go on dates with me :D

Yeah my buddy has a gtr and did the exhaust thing where he can remote control whether it is open or closed and when he opens it, it's so loud in the car it's ridiculous. I immediately thought I would never do that to my v. I have chipped my V and it's pushing about 600 hp. I thought about doing more but it doesn't seem to help much since the car is so hard to launch. If you give it a little too much power, you just peel out and go nowhere. I actually lost off the line to a pickup truck the other day cause I just peeled out so hard and didn't go anywhere, lol. I can peel out at 65 mph on the freeway very easily even if I paddle down and gun it. It's crazy how fast you can burn through tires with it. That stick golf sounds super fun though. Another friend of mine has a supped up mini which is super fun.

I'd recommend the Audi or Infinity out of those few you listed.

Don't get the Acura TLX though. Specs are barely even better than a Civic. If you're going Acura, go RSX or TL.

I actually wouldnt recommend the Audi. I have an A-4 and I absolutely hate it. Nothing but issues since the day I brought it home. Im very mechanically inclined and my brother is the master mechanic at one of the largest dealerships in Milwaukee. Its a giant turd. Stay away from Audi.

I've got a 2010 c350 mercedes and love it. Haven't had any problems with it besides having to take it in for yearly maintenance. If I didn't go Mercedes I probably would have went Audi. Either way your picking from a good group of cars.

I read a couple of comments at Autoblog where guys are saying the A3 is nothing but an expensive Jetta. Those guys are kind of snobby, though. (They also seem to know there stuff.)

No BMW love? I drive those in LA once in a blue. They're pretty fun. I'm actually going tomorrow. Thinking about renting a Mini-Cooper for kicks.

I also just bought a 2012 Elantra last summer because I drive a ton for work and the gas mileage is fantastic. That said, I do agree that it is a terrible winter car. My constant ventures from Madison to Beloit have ranged between treacherous and terrifying most of this winter. Other than that though I do really like the car.

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking ILX. Didn't know they were replacing (rebranding?) the TL.

Hopefully the TLX is as awesome as the TLs are.

Yep - terrific car all other times. Techy, sporty, handles well, no issues mechanically, very good milage. I have almost 40K on mine. The thing just cannot handle snow at all. I made it two winters without an accident, always contemplating though if I needed a new car given its performance in snow, and finally got into a (minor) accident recently that was weather-induced (I was not issued a ticket because of the conditions). I've just had it now.

Yeah, they are snobby. I stopped reading that blog a couple years ago for a variety of reasons, but that was one of them. Still, that's not to throw their opinions completely out of the window; maybe that's exactly what it is...

I'm also looking at buying a car, trying to get a circa 70s split screen Kombi. I'm going to assume it'll handle as well as Supreme's rides. :D

Whatever you buy - buy a 3 year old one= low miles, one owner, private party- no reason to take on all the depreciation. My main car is a Mercedes SL. They're basically bullet proof, fast, and luxurious (don't buy one from the Daimler Chrysler era though). A convertible (retractable hard top) a must, but I live in San Antonio so I don't have to deal with the elements. I own 5 cars right now - the other ones - 1979 Corvette L82, 1979 Trans Am Bandit Y84, 1969 AMX, and a 1995 Firehawk. Selling the Firehawk and the Vette to make room for something else. The Vette is for sale - although I had someone locally look at it who is checking with their bank today- great deal = http://www.ebay.com/itm/251444946794?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

If anyone ever runs accross a nice pre1980 Trans Am or a 1998 Mercedes SL500 or 600 with the sports package let me know - I will give you a finders fee.
