Also, I dont feel that an analytics-focused guy is necessary- just as long as hes open to analytics. Then you hire a stats guy as an assistant.

Hollins got canned because he hated analytics. Long twos FTW.

Well, he did pretty well without em:)

Did he say he hated them? I know he was replaced by an analytics-friendly bcuz the new gm wanted that angle, but i didnt know he was actively against them. I believe you.

Drew really ought to go back to being an assistant- he could be helpful developing pgs. Looking at our O this year, hes clearly got a one-track mind.

Edit: fwiw, i think analytics are in danger of becoming a bit overrated myself. A little bit is all you need, Imo.

From memory there was a lot of friction about management wanting to be rid of Rudy Gay. You don't need a lot of analytics if don't have horrible player evaluation skills I guess. :D

I want nothing to do with Hollins. The guys that intrigue me, and make me wish this sale gets approved so we can get in the mix of these hirings are: Kerr, Hoiberg, Messina, Vogel if he becomes available, and just because he's a hot name, Snyder.

I think for the first time in forever, the Bucks might be the most attractive place for a new HC of the available positions (unless Indiana comes available). New, rich owners, Giannis, top 4 pick, Eastern Conference, low expectations.

I can def appreciate going in a new direction, HC-wise. Now that i think about it, Hollins would actually be a better fit for a win-now team w all its pieces more or less in place. That aint us.

He wouldn't even talk to the Bucks last year when they called.

I'll just sit tight until our basketball insider Woelfel throws some names out there. He's got his finger on the pulse of this team.
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

Because Herb demanded Stan be fired when he was the head coach at Wisconsin, but now we have billionaire owners. It's a whole new ballgame.

maybe a better question would be.....
which teams are consistent winners despite their coach?

I can name plenty of teams that won with gms that have since made you think they were just plain lucky.

guys like karl, Jackson, brown, thibs, pop, riley, rivers, etc, etc, etc? they'll always win wherever they go. and part of it is the influence they can exert on the front office. but pressure from the front office? that's never gonna make a good coach.

I would say the Thunder for sure. Scott Brooks is an idiot.

I'm a Wisconsin native and a Virginia alum. Tony Bennett is my basketball hero. I hope he never goes pro.

I think we keep Drew around. Didn't we fire Stotts for similar deficiencies and look at him now. I don't think it right to fire a coach after one year after what we had on the floor this year and while in stealth tank mode.
I admit to being a terrible judge of talent and having minimal knowledge of the game of basketball.

The two situations were pretty different. Drew isn't handling his first HC job and is what he is. Stotts also got experience on a championship team before landing his new gig in Portland, it's not like he went right from the Bucks to the Blazers.

I made fun of Stotts, but am really happy for him. In retrospect, he was probably the best pro coach we had since Karl. Poor guy was given a bad locker room and didn't have any clout at the time.

No way Drew is back. new owners are in a PR push and need a fresh look, articulate leader, youngsters making clear growth progress, and an all new vibe. drew is not their hire, nor any of those things. Plus, it sounds like Lansy makes enough in a few poker hands to pay off the rest of his contract..

Best way to kill an arena deal is to keep Drew and Hammond around.

Nate Tibbetts also wouldn't be a bad choice.

Hoping we're talking to Kerr informally before he makes his decision on the Knicks.
