Thanks for the props on the shirt design, guys. Wondering if either of the people who ordered one got it yet.

Anyone have insight on the roster? If I'm reading it right, it only says 1 PG on the roster. Also, I thought it was funny Giannis's position is N/A. Who are the main guys on the team and chances of winning the tournament? The FIBA ranking(?) is 5 for Greece.

Also, Kostas is listed as 6'12". I wonder if the guy on the general board had anything to due with it since he hates people calling players 7-footers.

For some weird reason, betting sites used to give Greece the third best odds to win the tournament after USA and Spain. The reality is that it is a severely depleted roster with half the guys missing for one reason or another (btw Koufos will not be playing). There are 4 PGs in the roster ( Calathes, Zisis, Mantzaris, Sloukas ), so it'll be a dual PG lineup most of the time, something usual for Greece. There are not "main guys" per se, since Spanoulis is missing, it'll be team basketball and sharing touches and a lot of PnR. There is a new coach, so we're not sure yet about the identity of the team. The goals are not high, it'll be a success if we make it out of the group stage. Giannis' spot in the roster should be guaranteed by now, it might have been difficult for him to get minutes in the key games if it was a full roster, because of inexperience. Offensively this team will be challenged, again because Spanoulis is missing, so i expect them to try grinding it out defensively, but there is still a lack of physicality for this. Friendlies will start in about three weeks.

Really unlucky for Giannis to not play with the best player never to have played in the NBA, Dimitris Diamantidis.
He was Giannis' idol while growing up but unfortunately has retired from the national team..
Currently ranked 1st in assists, 1st in steals, 8th in 3pointers made, 13th in points scored, 14th in steals, 14th in blocks all-time in the second best league after the NBA, the Euroleague.

With the absence of Koufos i can see him playing a lot as a PF. As Apollo said above we will be challenged offensively so pick and roll and fast brakes will be our main weapons, and Giannis looks good on both.

No way bro. Greece has Printezis and Kaimakoglou for that position.
Adeto will be Papanikolaou's back-up at the SF position..

Hallo Bucks Fans :)

I am Greek and want to give
You some information about
Giannis on hin National Team Run.

First on youtube you can find
Daily videos from the training
Camp and games.
The channel is HellenicBF

First friendly game will bei
On 8. Of August

There will be 8 friendlies
Befor the World cup

The greek national Team ranks
5. On fiba
Main reason although is that
we finished 2nd in 2006 WC
Where we beat USA in the Semis
This Tournament still counts
for the ranking

in the years After 2009 greece
Changed the coach every years
Additionally every year we had
a lot of stars missing like
schortsianitis Baby shaq, diamantidis
(Retired 2010), and so on

this year the Superstar spanoulis
koufos, shortsianitis, perperoglou,
Mavrokefalidis, are missing

There Where some other internal
Problems every year since 2008
Also

A greek tragedy every year which did
not allow us to play the
Best we can

So are we 5th Best team? I am quite
Sure if our team is full.
Are we 5th this year? No.

Our group will cross with group B
In the round of 16
There is spain, france, brazil, and serbia

We can beat every one of this teams
But with those Players missing it
Will be very difficult

With all Stars on our team only spain and USA
Seem to be unbeatable
Although we beat spain last year

So back to Giannis
He ist the newest member
He did never play the highest greek League
Am
He only played with the under 20 national
Team once (last year)

So He doest not know any other
Member of the Team

He seems to have been welcomed
Warmly and he is the little Boy
Of the Team

He will Play SF with papanikolaou
(Pap refused to sign with the rockets
this year and stayed with european
powerhouse Barcelona)

Im greece we have a lot of top
Level point Guards like nick
calathes, mantzaris, zisis, sloukas
(Spanoulis is injured, diamantidis
Retired)
All of them beeing experienced
Euroleague Players and having
Played all the youth and national teams
Multiple times

So giannis will Play only 3 I expect

The new coach wants to play fast basketball,
So I expect this will fit perfectly for Giannis

Greek Players usually have a high Basketball IQ
So this will be a good thing for Giannis to
Develop

I expect giannis to play a round 10-15min
(Fiba 40min a game)

If giannis. Develops faster he could play more
minutes of papanikolaou and some minutes
on PF
As said i Do not expect hin playing Guards
As we have plenty of players There

As this is a World cup we can not afford
to much trying with giannis But he will Do well
he will be the Superstar on this team in a few
years (i hope)

Together with the very talented classes of 1990
And younger we will be very strong
with giannis

i will keep you informed on how giannis
is doing in the national Team if you are
Interested

i feel the love for Giannis from you guys
and i want to say thanks from greek people

giannis is such a great guy and we all
Love ihm to death

Folowing sentence:

Poor Giannis. I remember reading about what older Greeks did with the 'little boys.'

In all seriousness, thanks for the post and keep us informed with how our guy is doing.
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

Hope Giannis does well and more importantly remains healthy.

I have mixed emotions about players going overseas to play during the summer. Love to see them play but I fear several things.

1. Health
2. Too much work, not enough rest
3. Lacking in specific NBA training (hasn't been the case this year for Giannis, the guy is a gym rat)

None the less, I hope he and his team exceed expectations.

Health is always an issue.

I agree. But Kobe himself
Said that it is more
Dangerous to play unorganized
Games than professional
Games.

Playing at rukker park
Should be more dangerous
I think

For the rest issue:
Giannis stopped playing
End of april
How much rest would one
Need until november?
I think giannis happy to play
For his country is more
efficient than giannis
not allowed to play

But this may be a cultural
thing
I see a lot of nba stars not
willing to play for USA
(E.g. blake griffin to name
the last one to refuse)
And wonder why nobody
freaks out.

Ok USA will win anyway But how
would you react when usa
Loses the title because no one
Shows up?

In every european team every
NBAer is needed because
the mass of top Level Players
is much lower

But i accept your opinion

Still i think giannis can
develop with the national
team also

At least. Mentally
