FIBA World Cup
Figured we could use a centralized thread for all things pertaining to Team USA, Giannis, Miroslav & Daniel Santiago. All Greek input is welcome and appreciated, even if your posts read like epic sagas. Aussies, this is a safe space to discuss Aron Baynes hard fouls. Tournament kicks off August 30th & there will be plenty of warmup games between now and then. I'm pumped.

I do like the addition of Paul Millsap, should've been added over Faried to begin with.

Re: FIBA World Cup
I wonder if Giannis will get to start for Greece.
Bummed that both Griffin and Love will be out. We need all the big bodies we can get if we want to match up with Spain and those damn Gasol brothers.

No way will giannis Start.
But we will have 4 Forwards in the roster.
2 of them PFs (Printezis and kaimakoglou).
Kaimakoglou can Play 3 also. Printezis dont.
and 2 SF one of them giannis.
Main SF is Papanikolaou (barcelona, nba Rights
at houston. Wanted hin this year. But he declined.
think this was a mistake. .. other story)
So papanikolaou will be the Main SF with
Kaimakoglou getting minutes at 3 also.
all the Mentioned are long year national
team veterans although papanikolaou
Is only 25
All of them experienced Euroleague stars
Neither will he play PG
Because we have a bunch of quality PGs.
But!
The new coach wants to play fast which will
Suit perfect to Giannis
So He will get his shot in Preparation
For sure
When its going to get tough in the tournament...
I dont know... Lets see

Re: FIBA World Cup
The U.S. really got gutted with all the frontcourt attrition. It opens the door for an upset for the first time since '06. Cousins and Drummond aren't exactly reliable options.
I'm particularly annoyed by Griffin and Aldridge. They shouldn't be allowed to withdraw from all these squads and then just show up for one olympics so they could have the experience for themselves. Bigger stars than them like LeBron, Durant, and Melo all paid their dues with several appearances, and in at least one World Championship. I don't care about Love withdrawing because he's paid dues himself, and doesn't want to foil the trade he wants so badly. But there's no valid excuse for those other guys at this point.
The only problem is, they are largely dependent on bigs like those. The pool is so perimeter heavy in relation to interior. Still have a better interior than any other country, but the gap is lesser. In the olympics I'd probably just play small ball with Davis, Love, and a defensive center like Drummond or Chandler up top; then depending who else is willing to come at that point have a bunch of undersized stretch 4's like Durant, Anthony, LeBron, etc. Just bomb opponents off the court like last olympics.

Re: FIBA World Cup
Certainly changing times in Australian basketball, even with Bogey and Mills out we'll still have 4 NBA players, plus 2 more that have spent a couple of seasons in the NBA. Strong squad- the best high schooler in the US/LSU commit/projected 2016 lottery pick Ben Simmons was the last guy cut after Ryan Broekhoff apparently put in a very strong showing in training camp.
David Andersen (Strasbourg; France), Cameron Bairstow (Chicago Bulls; NBA), Aron Baynes (San Antonio Spurs; NBA), Ryan Broekhoff (Besiktas; Turkey), Matthew Dellavedova (Cleveland Cavaliers; NBA) Dante Exum (Utah Jazz; NBA), Adam Gibson (Adelaide 36ers; NBL), Chris Goulding (CAI Zaragoza; Spain), Joe Ingles (Maccabi Tel-Aviv; Israel), Nathan Jawai (Galatasaray; Turkey), Brock Motum (Bologna; Italy), Brad Newley (Gran Canaria, Spain)

Yeah I was thinking rare it is to see only one Aussie who plays in the NBL. Pouring out some Foster's for Mark Worthington.

I think they're all going to be on ESPN 3. I'm sure Greece will have some friendlies leading up to the tournament -- not sure where to catch those yet.
