Doug Collins at Bucks Practice: New Team President?

Post#1 » by EastSideBucksFan » Tue Oct 7, 2014 7:52 pm

Figured this deserved it's own thread.

If he's here, it might already be a done deal.

Obviously he's in sight to the media.

I am guessing the team president would have more power over personnel decisions then if he became the guy. I am not sure how to feel about it. If he wanted the job, I would have to interview him myself to develop an opinion. He does not seem to have any experience that is extremely relevant. However he has been around the game forever so I am sure he has been exposed to relevant discussions and decision making opportunities. If he is the guy, I believe Edens and Lasry combined are smarter than any of us combined so I would choose to trust their judgement.

What is really crazy is if it would happen, Wow, the Bucks would just be getting more and more relevant in the league.

Don't know if I would like another guy making personnel decisions in the front office. Seems like they'd butt heads, and who knows who gets the final say.

Doug Collins is a basketball legend, and forgot more about basketball yesterday alone than any of us will ever know. Having said that, he is notorious in league circles for being fiercely impatient. He is second maybe only to Larry Brown in demanding players be traded after one bad game, or letting his entire view of a player change practice to practice. Collins as president could work, but you would really have to insulate him with some Cesar Milan types that can read his demeanor, calm him with whispers, etc..

Would be great to prove how things have changed and show that we have a real NBA franchise in this city.

...On the other hand, I don't know what he knows to make him qualified for the job. Like another poster has said, he's been around the game forever, so maybe that's enough. Would make me happier to have him in that position than coach, so at least there is that.

Love it. If we were hiring him to be HC, I'd love it less, because he'd most likely fret about wins ASAP and try to field a competitive, veteran team.

But, like Phil Jackson in his new role with the Knicks, this offers an avenue of team building that these guys wouldn't have if they were sitting on the sidelines and prisoners to their uber-competitive nature. No pressure to win immediately, and can focus on building a franchise with a young core.

Doug Collins is a great basketball mind, I have no doubt that his on court success can translate to shrewd personnel moves.

I would be happy to have a basketball mind in the position. Collins fits that.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, he's a big name obviously and I know Herb coveted him at one time and he shot us down so it says a lot about the potential culture change that Lasry and Edens have brought to this team. I think Lasry and Edens are smart guys and they know they want to build a contending team not a middling one so the pressure to win right away should not exist. I trust their vision.

Going to try to not get too hyped up, but would love this move. The Bucks will have nearly dumped a completely incompetent front office and legitimized the franchise. I think that Hammond is really the only question mark at this point, but then again he might have been horribly stifled.

Collins was a crappy coach, but I just feel he wasn't made to deal with NBA personalities. He's one of my favorite people to listen talk basketball, and has been for years. I'd be open to the hire.

We're like the formerly unpopular schoolgirl that shows up to the first day of school with a new wardrobe and bigger tits.

I'm going into this believing there's no way a person would be brought into the organization who isn't fully on board with the 3-5 year plan that is already been laid out and in place. I don't think for a second that we'd have Doug Collins pushing moves to try and make playoffs this season.

Now, with that in mind, I'd be fully on board with this move.

Love that movie! Cant imagine the Bucks would be pushing this Own the Future thing so much, just to trade young guys for vets to make a push for the 8th seed.
