Is there a 2 for 1 Brandon Knight/Ersan trade out there?

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Tue Oct 21, 2014 2:22 pm

Micheal Eric is 26 years old. I don't see him suddenly turning into a special player. But he looked intriguing last night.

Might be proven wrong, but I don't see Ersan returning to his 2011-13 levels.

Might be proven wrong, but I see Brandon Knight stifling that great ball movement we saw last night once he returns.

For those who want to play along, are there any 2 for 1 deals involving Knight/Ersan going outbound that are remotely possible and make sense?

Ersan+Knight for Kendrick Perkins+1st?

Though I suppose he'd only further block Michael Eric from getting spot minutes, if that's what you are going for. Maybe you could work out a buyout with Perkins.

Does OKC do this? I highly doubt it. I'm also highly skeptical that anyone would be willing to take Ersan and actually send something of value back. He has negative value at this point.

Not an easy task. My first thought was finding a PG, but not sure there's one available with an $11 million price tag. Ty Lawson? Unlikely, but worth a shot.

I think a more likely possibility is Knight/Ilyasova for Bargnani/future 1st. We obviously let Bargnani ride the pine until his contract expires in 8 months. Knight gives NY some needed backcourt scoring and Ilyasova provides the stretch 4, conceivably, they were hoping for in Bargnani. Overall, a trade that improves NY's playoff chances while opening up minutes for Milwaukee.

Yes, try to get Millsap. He's in a contract year and I doubt the Hawks will be able to keep him (they also drafted Payne, who will be able to step in if Millsap's gone).

Or, since they were shopping him: Horford for Ersan, Knight and Henson.

Millsap makes no sense here with a rebuilding team. If we do move Ersan, we want those minutes going to Parker and Henson.

I don't care if Michel Eric gets minutes. But he is the sort of guy a team like the Bucks should be able to accommodate on their roster.

I'm also concerned that we'll have fights over minutes with some of these vets. Would rather pitch Ersan and Knight over the side now in a 2 for 1 to clear playing time for the guys who played last night. No matter what way you slice it, Ersan and Knight will take minutes away from Giannis, Jabari, Middleton, Henson, Wolters, Marshall, etc.

That said, I'd love to try and float this package. I want to clear minutes for Parker/Henson, and I want nothing to do with a Knight extension either. That's my biggest fear in all of this.

I think Ersan is close to untradable in this NBA trade climate. No one is going to want to pay him 8 mil a year next year plus whatever Knight get's for an extension.

I agree. That said maybe there is a stupid team out there that thinks some win now will help. The OKC idea floated above isn't crazy. They could rationalize that Ersan and Knight help keep them afloat the first two-months of the year.

Try the Lakers, for Nash's ghost & whatever else is needed to make the trade work.

The Laker's will be full-on Win NOW this year.

I could see Lakers be full on tanking this year. Their pick is protected top 5, right? Might be playing to try and keep that

I'd be hesitant to attach Knight in a deal simply to clear Ersan's contract off the books, because unlike Ersan, he still has positive value.

I'd be more inclined to do something like Knight & Ersan for McLemore & Jason Thompson. SAC seems to be in some weird "win-now but still w/youth" phase and I think you can convince them that Knight is a younger replacement for Thomas and that Ersan is the ideal stretch 4 to put next to Cousins.

We get a nice, high potential prospect in McLemore with a defined NBA position, and shave off a couple million in cap room over the course of the next two years with Thompson's slightly cheaper contract. Let Thompson waste away on the bench for all I care. We can waive him next year and only be on the hook for $2.6 million if need be.

I think their going Win Now, because of the last roundup for Kobe, plus their TV revenue is linked to their ratings. If people out there watch the Clippers more, then the Lakers stand to miss out on a boodle of cash.

NBA & NFL Rumors
‏@NBAandNFLInfo SOURCES: #Bucks have proposed trading Larry Sanders & Brandon Knight to #Thunder for Kendrick Perkins, Reggie Jackson & Jeremy Lamb
