2015-16 UW Badger Basketball Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by LUKE23 » Fri Nov 14, 2014 4:35 pm

Season tips off tonight at 8:00 Central vs. Northern Kentucky.

Really interesting to see an assumed starting frontcourt of Dekker/Hayes/Kaminsky. Tons of versatility with that group. Normally I'd be afraid of how the team handles their preseason expectations, but I think Bo keeps them pretty level headed.

I'm most interested to see Nigel Hayes 2.0 in action.

I'm as pumped for this college season as I have been for any.

I think Koenig is the x-factor for this team.

Yep. I think if you assume normal Ryan-coached improvement in players, we are better at every spot vs. last year, which is crazy to think about. Koenig over Brust is an upgrade, as I expect only a minuscule dip in 3 point shooting with far better ball handling and passing.

Yeah this is easily the best team in the history of WI basketball. I just hope for a season of good health. Not promising a FF run or Championship but for the first time they are every bit as good as anyone and a seasons worth of Bo coaching could make this a season to remember. And I never gush like this.

I think the only team that might have come close (I know 2006-2007 was a pretty damn good one) would be 2004-2005 if Harris had come back. Tucker emerging, Sophomore Butch, Wilkinson, Stiemmer barely played, Kam, Chambliss, a very young Flowers, Nixon, Morely. Took the eventual champ UNC down to the wire in the Elite 8.

I'll be there tonight. Hoping to have a ton of fun watching us dismantle Northern Kentucky.

To those saying Koenig the the x-factor, yes he's going to be incredible this year. He was a really good shooter in high school and his passing skills are insane. Really hope he gets to play some more PG this year too. I gush because I went to high school with him. :)

A quick question for those who understand red shirting, can Happ play a certain number of games before deciding to take a redshirt? If so, how many games can he Play? I have heard some really good things about him and hope he plays this season, personally not a big fan of red shirting unless you are injured.

He can't play at all I he wants to redshirt, unless he comes down with a season ending injury early in the year. He could then apply for a medical redshirt.

I have a buddy that coaches high school ball that was doing some things with the Badgers staff over the summer and they were saying that they had never seen a player improve so much in one offseason as Hayes has this summer.

I am so excited for this season.

Random thoughts:
Traevon Jackson. He can be hit or miss. Overall he adds a ton to the Badgers, but sometimes he decides to pound the ball and wait for nothing to happen.

Koenig's single biggest skill over any of the other guards is his ability to throw the ball into the post. He needs to play with Hayes a lot.

FRANKIE!

That's it.

I think our only weakness is rebounding, and its not like we are below average at it. Otherwise I love this team, on paper one of my favorite college squads of all time, at least potentially. If Happ doesnt redshirt and has some game (I hear his shot is weak) we are insanely deep. We don't need Happ if Duje takes a step forward, but Im not optimistic about that. He is worth the scholarship anyway since his pops brings Toni Kukoc with to the Kohl Center every so often. Love what I am hearing about Hayes. Bronson will outplay Traevan. The buzz I am hearing is that Dekker is pro ready, physically.

My only fear is Bo takes things too seriously and is a killjoy all regular season. This could / should be a really fun season.
