Illikainen and Pritzl both played tonight so no redshirts for them.

Happ is really struggling. I hope it's just a confidence/nerves problem. Meanwhile, some of these other new players are looking promising. Brown's shot looks confident. Again, one of them has to emerge as a scoring threat....it can't be just the Hayes-Koenig show all season.

Happ has been too foul prone these first two games; hopefully he can adjust to that, as it definitely does have him frustrated.

Koenig was great tonight and I was happy to see him be more assertive with his own shot. We will need him in that role this season for us to succeed.

Happ seems to be a completely below-the-rim kind of guy. Plenty of time to be a good player as we go forward, but not as exciting as a game out of the gates as you'd hope.

Happ has horrible shooting form. If he can be serviceable from 15 feet away I'll be happy. I doubt he'll ever be a three point threat.

They better not bone us with Van Vliet. Sucks for the kid who is older, an excellent student, and chose to go to NCAA over other options. Labissiere gets in straight away but not Van Vliet? It's political/financial.

Will always wonder if we would have avoided that embarrassing Western Illinois loss with him on the floor at times. Odds are he's not a starter this year, but he could have a Stiemsma effect with the shot blocking, with 3-pt shooting to boot. Two things we could have used against Western Illinois when the defense was a sieve and scoring was not easy low on shooters, w/ significant congestion, Hayes off, and Koenig being too passive. That 05-06 team that this one is compared to sometimes was low on depth after the attrition, but we also lost that Stiemsma x-factor when he too was ruled ineligible. Have to wait and see here on the impact and eligibility fronts now.

Dekker got sent to the D league. Damn...

Not been a great professional year for last year's heroes. Frank not doing much either.

As of Nov. 13, however, Dekker was sent down the Rio Grande Valley Vipers D-League team by Rockets coach Kevin McHale.

Would love to know if UW was too dumb to understand the eligibility rules or if they really thought they were going to pull a fast one on the NCAA.

Pretty rough stretch in the recruiting game during a time that should see us reaping the rewards of our successes. Hard to overstate how much of a missed opportunity it's been.

Georgetown is playing incredibly tough in a true road game against Maryland.

They are going to kill us.

LOL, they just showed Vasquez at the Maryland/Georgetown game. He must've hauled ass over there after the game tonight.

Badgers are looking better. Happ is looking a lot more confident. Not a tough opponent, but not much different than W. Illinois.
It looks like Brown can be a legit scoring option from the outside, and Happ is looking a lot better (confident) around the basket. But the prospects in the tourney might depend on how well Thomas and Iverson progress. Both have loads of potential.
I'm afraid the Badgers are going to have a lot of problems stopping teams from scoring. The team rebounds well despite lack of size, but it doesn't look like they'll be able stop teams from getting points.
Nevertheless, things are looking up. Thomas just turned 18???!! Wow.

UW knew of this the whole time and fully expected NCAA to give him an exception. Not trying to pull a fast one, frankly it seems completely unreasonable they won't let him play based on the situation. Yet UNC continues to go on with no ramifications from being caught red handed in probably the biggest academic cheating scandal in NCAA history.

McHale fired. Dekker is getting back surgery. Out three months at least.

Stone will likely be fine when he gets some learning in, but he was terrible last night. Got yanked early 2nd half for getting absolutely abused in the paint by Georgetown. Looked stiff and slow. Came in with about 8 minutes left and jacked a terrible shot, got yelled at, yanked again. Showed zero emotion on the bench.

It's hard to know. I'm sure they knew the risks and also knew when they signed van Vliet that he might have to sit for a year. They seemed generally surprised, because I think van Vliet's circumstances were actually rough, and it wasn't as if they were trying to pull a fast one.

van Vliet said he didn't even fear ineligibility until they called him and told him the first request was denied. After that, though, he was prepared to be ineligible for the season.

Skal Labissiere for Kentucky enrolled in a high school that was created by his guardian to maintain eligibility. Some stuff just doesn't add up, but oh well. Hopefully he can beef up in his season away.

The issue with Van Vliet is that he repeated a year of HS in order to improve his grades and keep in their upper tier of schooling. Therefor they're saying he should've graduated a year earlier so he's ineligible. It makes no sense, they're penalizing a kid for working harder academically. UW knew this the whole time and figured any reasonable person would allow him to play, NCAA of course is not reasonable. Too bad a compromise couldn't be made that he'd have to use this year as an academic redshirt or something, so he'd still have 4 years after sitting the year.

Yeah, Stone looked terrible. His body language is what concerned me the most though. He better pull his head out, or he could waste all that talent. Emphasis on could--lots of time.

Having said that, I still wish he was a Badger.
