Suns fan here, please tell me about Brandon Knight

Post#1 » by Revived » Thu Feb 19, 2015 9:52 pm

Hey yall, congrats on the trade.

Suns fan here coming to acquire info on the newest Sun Brandon Knight.

One of the biggest issues the Suns have had this season is that there is too much iso ball and selfishness from the guards. Judging by your guys posts, will Knight just add to that or is he actually different?

What are the pros and cons and do you think he will be a better fit playing next to Bledsoe? Is he good defensively? Also is he really as bad a 2pt shooter as his stats say?

Also, why didn't the Bucks want to pay him? What was the highest offer they gave him which he declined?

Thanks in advance.

We all hated him, but were mad he wasn't an all star.
Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed? You don't need double talk... You need Bob Loblaw.

He enjoys dribbling and shooting.

I think the Bucks offered $10m/yr, and he declined it. I could be wrong though. I would guess he's looking at $13-$14m/yr

You saw Isaiah Thomas play, you know most you need to know about Knight.

You're going to see a lot of negativity about Knight (and it's mostly true) so I'll point out the thing that was really growing on me.

He has balls. He takes and hits shots late in the game better than any Buck of the last 3 or 4 years. He will piss you off for 30 minutes only to turn into the hero the last 2 minutes of a game.

He has no point guard skills, however. None. If you can play him off ball you will like him more that way.

Side note, at least the Suns will get a player to dick around in the offseason with RFA.

They seem to enjoy that.

He can shoot really well and penetrate, shows flashes of Westbrook like explosiveness at times. Incredibly frustrating most of the time, no instincts as a PG. People will tell you he has improved as a PG in the last two years, but don't listen to them. He is clueless....and quite possibly the worst guard I have ever seen on the break. Always manages to make the wrong decision

You're screwed if he plays PG majority of the time. Only reason it worked on our team is because Kidd is a crazy smart coach

He it ballsy and confident but he is not a pure PG. Like a Jamal Crawford without the flashyness.

We'll consider this the final BK thread, keep it open awhile and lock it up and move on.

Great athlete, hard worker, great three point shooter, doesn't understand basketball at all and thinks he's a floor general. nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye nanananana heyaaaaaaaa gooooodbye

He's not that different than Bledsoe, in my admittedly non-expert opinion.

There are a lot of positives to Brandon. He plays hard, he practices hard, he is a worker, he is tough, he seems to have high character, and he is truly fearless (be it trying to block Deandre Jordan above the rim, take last second shots, etc). He is a much better than average three point shooter when his feet are set. He defends very well at both back court positions.

The negatives are that he is selfish in transition, looks for his own shot too much in the half court, and is expecting a huge payday.

I actually think that he will form a really fun backcourt with Bledsoe. Both guys are physical, defend, and are tough to keep from penetrating. If you are not relying on him to initiate offense and set others up, you will probably really like him.

I posted my thoughts on your board in a couple posts.

Knight is undisputed talented, he's just not a good fit on this team given his play style. I think he's a big upgrade over IT for you guys, Knight can actually play defense and is actually really good off the ball when he actually plays that way. Having Bledsoe and Knight is an interesting combination, perhaps they can share the PG duties and ball out scoring. I dunno how they will fit together but I do think Knight can be a really good SG if he commits himself.
