Who was telling you Waukesha is a nicer place to live than Milwaukee? I have never heard anyone say that.
Are you sure they weren't talking about Waukesha County vs. Milwaukee County?
I just always heard how nice Waukesha is and assumed it was the city. I mean if that's they were talking about the county, I still take Shorewood, WFB, etc. Better location and beautiful old homes.

All ancillary development will be tax exempt as well as the arena. Eliminates ability for TIF district to fund arena.

And we are finally hearing more about the naming rights not going toward construction.

#NBA commish Adam Silver just told me he does not forsee expansion or relocation to #Seattle at any point the next two or three years.

Told everybody before Silver is the anti-Stern and wants to be everybody's friend(one of the reasons I feel there will be another stoppage). If Stern were still running things I would've taken the threats and deadlines seriously. But with Silver I never have and never will. He's all about good pr and Koombaya. There's no good pr from relocating small market NBA teams and Silver doesnt ever want to appear to be the villain. Stern didnt care what people thought of him or his decisions.

I can't believe this is accurate. That said, IF this is the actual proposal from the state, it tells me they are not serious about getting the arena done. There is no way they can expect the county and city to put in a combined 40% of the total public amount, the state puts in 60%, but the state gets 81% of the representation on any governing board. Not only that, but exempting the whole development from property taxes. What benefit would the city have to fund this? The only source of local income they control is property taxes, if that's taken away the Bucks are nearly worthless to the city.drew881 wrote:Fair arguments here on Milwaukee losing out in potential future property tax revenue, while the state gets what they want with their income tax. The problem is, like a casino, these developments are designed to keep people in them. The Bucks are not trying to develop a gathering area to help the other businesses on Old World Third, they would be creating competing businesses, on a tax-free basis, that will have a direct tie-in to the arena. IF this is the actual deal, I will actively oppose it, and begin lobbying hard for Bauman's sales tax idea. It's really a bad proposal in every way, and that's before we get into the naming rights game. This a political nonstarter for the city and county to go along with it, and I have to believe that the state knows this, which is why I don't think it's an accurate reflection of where the negotiations are at now.

DickCunningham wrote:We might be hearing more about naming rights in that article, but I think the writer doesn't understand ownership. The Bucks don't have to donate naming rights if a public entity owns the building. The owner of a building can sell the naming rights to whoever. As main tenant, the Bucks might "coyly" negotiate for that revenue stream.
