If the Cavs are smart, they say no thanks to Tristan Thompson and his ridiculous max contract demands, and instead give David West the full mid-level exception.

Sure, but there are some crazy agent dynamics going on there. LeBron was on record from before he returned to Cleveland saying he thought T Thompson was a max player. And job titles aside, who do you think the real GM is there?

I don't really disagree with you by the way.

For whatever it's worth, Charlotte is supposedly shopping Cody Zeller.

Trade Idea:

Kings Acquire:
Khris Middleton (via S&T)
John Henson
2015 1st (#17)
2017 Clippers 1st

Bucks Acquire:
DeMarcus Cousins

Do you pull the trigger?

Would not do it. The picks are nice, but we'd be taking on too much garbage to give up Middleton.

Chalmers and Birman are expiring contracts, an even swap for Mayo and Zaza. Thompson and Landry have two years left on their deals. Not great. But I'd consider taking them on if that means I could add Okafor/Mudiay/Winslow and a Myles Turner at 10.

Yeah, this puts us down to about $9-$10MM in cap room. Not terrible, but not great. Plus the $13MM or so owed to those to in 16-17 as you mentioned.

Miami is apparently willing to deal their pick if a team takes on their crap contracts, like McBob. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Tough to look at $100 mil and say nah.

I'd add MCW too to get that done. Parker + Giannis + Boogie front court would be the stone cold nutz.

I would take on their crap for 10. That gives you WCS, Turner, or Frank. McRoberts is playable. Birdman you can just cut and trust someone will pick him up (which defrays what you owe him). Chaulmers is playable as a backup.

This move gives us vets on the bench, and a center of the future.

The thing is Lebron, while the best player in the league, is one of the worst GMs. His crew of old (really old) cronies in Marion, Miller, and Jones were crap. The Love trade he seemed to push for was a huge mistake. The thing is if they let Lebron make the personel decisions they aren't going to win and they will risk losing him. If they don't give him input his ego will be sad and they will risk losing him. That said, their only choice is to just go ahead and make decisions without him and hope they win it all, not that anyone in Cleveland has shown the ability to do that.

Can we re-trade Caron? Or have we already released him?

Something like Caron+ Bayless for McBob+ Anderson+ Chalmers+ 10?

replacing Bayless with Williams+JOB works in the trade checker as well

Cavs don't really need Love. Irving and LeBron are enough to win a title on that team with a bunch of role players. I wouldn't tie up a lot of money in Love.

Miami has $81 committed already for next year against a projected $81mm luxury tax. Their committed $81 million only has a placeholder of $7.5mm for Dragic, who will be pulling in $15 to $18.

Miami does not want to be in the luxury tax again next season because then they are considered a long-term lux tax "repeater" and they tax on them gets even worse.

Birdman, McBob and Chalmers are all set to each make about $5mm per next season.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/MIA.html

We'd have to take all three off their hands perhaps to get pick 10, and even then they'd have troubles with a bench. That said, I'm completely down with taking #10 off their hands for that salary absorbing move.

Taking crap contracts for a lotto pick is much better than spending that money on Chandler or Lopez.

Agreed, seems like a perfect deal for us if a C we like is there at 10. Or package 10 & 17 to move up to get the C we want.
