Does he look a little slow to you? Gets shot off slow? All around slow? (This coming from a guy who thought Yi and Joe A. were going to be stars.)

Not really. Watch his SL highlights.

You're right. I do see flashes here. Shot goes up a little slow, but Kidd's staff will improve.
I admit to being a terrible judge of talent and having minimal knowledge of the game of basketball.

Vaughn definitely doesn't seem super explosive. I don't expect him to be a great playmaker, but I think he could be a nice shooting specialist who can come around screens and can be a secondary PnR ball handler. But his lack of burst is an issue and means he likely isn't going to be great at getting to the rim.

I don't know, just might be me, but watching him in summer league he looks much less the part than a shooting specialist, spot shooter. His wiggle to get in the lane and make some nice floaters and circus shots is really nice to see at such a young age. He got to the rim well and showed good awareness when he was stopped to get back past the arc and take the open look.

Your right they just down on him from start because people wanted players like Dekker or Portis. He looked pretty damn good. He was picked a little early based on mocks- they didn't see it coming. I thought he looked great. Out played a lot of higher ranked players and is only 18. Showed he could score in a variety of ways and has a complete game - could be a steal. Bucks know the Draft

James Harden doesn't possess elite explosiveness and he's one of the best in the league at getting to the rim and finishing. No, I'm not comparing Vaughn to Harden at all, but Vaughn possesses good size and a solid enough handle at 18 years old to make me believe he can become an above average scorer in dribble/drive scenarios.

Some of the shots he made in summer league showed to me that he has good touch in the paint. He has more than just "spot-up shooter" potential.

That is true. Vaughn definitely has some ability as a ball-handler. But, watching him play, he seems to be a guy who takes pull-up jumpers and floaters a lot. He has a pretty good drop-step to get to the rim, but he has to get better at protecting the ball.

And Harden was pretty darn explosive in college. He had a rep as an average athlete only because he was projected to go top-5 and people always look for athletic freaks that high. But Harden was a physical beast in college - one of the reasons the Harden comparisons for Russell were a little overoptimistic. Harden always could finish in traffic and throw down vicious dunks.

Yeah, like I said, not comparing them at all but just illustrating that you don't have to be an athletic freak to be an elite slasher. Although, people are selling Vaughn a little short if they're knocking his athleticism, as he's certainly above average.

Vaughn's handles are fine, he averaged 2.2 turnovers in 32.7min in college compared to Mayo who avg 3.5to in 36.8min, Beal 2.1to in 34.2min, and Harden 3.4to in 35.8min.

I think his low TO numbers come from being a conservative passer and taking a lot of shots. In SL, he exposed the ball on his finishing attempts often. IDK, I like his ball handling, I just think he is more of an OJ Mayo-type ball handler, in that he can make solid plays but isn't going to put tons of pressure on the defense.

I think he has a much better array of floaters etc in the lane than Mayo has ever had and if you put Vaughn in a PnR with Jabari it'll take 3 defenders to have a chance of slowing them down. It also doesn't seem like Mayo has ever worked on his handles, so hopefully with our staff we've got Vaughn and Middleton working on the Curry pregame dribbling drill or something daily.

I think Vaughn will be a nice surprise this season.

Hammond really has been nailing the draft in the past for where he has picked. I hope Vaughn continues the trend.
Khris Middleton - Beating up on Trash Can Teams since 1943. Invisible Man status otherwise.

I think Vaughn is a guy who kids is going to put in when Copland, mayo, Bayless shots are not falling and Vaughn is going to get his opportunity that way. And we know those 3 players are going to have more cold nights than hot so Vaughn better be ready this season. He might have. A stretch where he doesn't play for a couple of weeks so i hope he is mentally strong

I didn't see the full SL games. From this highlight video I am very enthusiastic because #1 The multiple ways he can score # 2 His passing.

Did you know?
* He tor his meniscus in Feb and was out for season
* While he was playing for UNLV they went just 10-12
*He is said to have some bad habits- body language, and wants to be the star

* Coming out of HS he was offered scholarships by Kansas, Kentucky, and NC. A top 20 recruit
* Without shoes measured 6' 3 .75" (Booker measured 6'4.5") (Hunter 6'4.5")
* Wingspan 6'7" (Booker 6'8 .25") (Hunter 6'10.5")
* Vertical 34" (Booker 34.5") (Hunter 33")

* Led his team in scoring and was 2nd in rebounding at 4.8 as 18 year old freshmen
* Not so great - he was a volume shooter- shot 43% and 38% from college 3 - not really sharp shooting stats (same said for SL stats)

My final analysis: Of the three Vaughn, Booker, and Hunter. Vaughn clearly is the most versatile player. The other two are primarily jump shooters while Vaughn scores in a variety of ways. He needs to become a more efficient scorer and not chuck early in the clock. He is not a top tier athlete or does he possess a great shot, but at best can be a capable starter. A less polished Mayo, but has a more versatile game.

He's pretty crafty for an 18-year-old.

Eric Gordon had a 40" vertical pre-injury. He was a Bradley Beal level athlete which is a couple steps above Vaughn.

Not nearly as good a shooter, but more versatile scorer. Athletically Gordon is a bit better. Vaughn will make his mark in the NBA through the wide variety of ways he can score. For an 18 year old kid he is really advanced in that regard. You see him make some great passes, just not always a willing passer. He never saw a shot he didn't like - needs to be more selective. This isn't the type player the Bucks usually pick - not a length/athletic guy.

People will think this is a bad comparison at first but, he kind of has a Ginobli game. He can hit the outside shot, but like Ginobli he can score in a variety of ways. Like Ginobli he is not an explosive athlete. Ginobli shot 43%FG 34%3 last year that is about where I see Vaughn. I'm not saying he is as good or ever will be as good, but there are some parallels.
