Who are we getting in return?

The Lakers are sending us a top 3 protected first. :)

Nice return.

In all seriousness though - I'm intrigued to see how much improvement, if any, MCW shows on his shooting this season. If he can show a marked improvement it will make such a difference to spacing and also to what our young core can offer.

From the playoffs we have lost Ersan and Duds and gained Vasquez, Copeland and drafted Vaughn. I agree it's clearly still an issue for us but its at least on par with last season.

The answer to the OP question is Giannis. Kidd told him not to shoot from outside last year, because he had to adjust his shot. If you think he's a bad shooter, you're probably (hopefully) very wrong.

Kidd wouldn't have told Giannis not to shoot if he was a good shooter. He's a work in progress that we hope gets to a decent level. From all reports he has the work ethic to get it done and now he has probably stopped growing it's going to be easier for him to improve his shot which is going to be a key part of him taking the next step.

Some of you hoping for Giannis to be a decent shooter makes me think we're in the summer of 2014.

Giannis shot better on 2 point jumpers than a bunch of star scoring wings. He'll add the three ball back in and refine his shot and be golden. Will still be 20 when the season starts too.

Vásquez, Mayo, Bayless, Vaughn, Middleton, Copeland are all good shooters.
Parker will become a really good one too.

Post Allstar break Giannis:

10-14 ft - 58.8% 10 of 17
15-19 ft - 44.8% 26 of 58
20-24 ft - 41.7% 10 of 24

5-9 ft - 24.2% 8 of 33
25-29 ft - 12.5% 1 of 8

I think people have nothing to worry about with Giannis' shooting.

Why do you think he can't shoot? All the numbers point to him improving over the course of the year when the leash came off.

When are you settisfied with Giannis´ shooting (3´s) this year? What is needed to make him an ouside threat and create more spacing? What do you expect?

A 30-32%, 100 attempts
B 32-34%, 150 attempts
C 33-36%, 150-200 attempts
D 34-36%, > 200 attempts
E >36%, > 200 attempts

I'm actually for real in the previous post. I think 70% of my posts have been about how Giannis is a good shooter and will be excellent.

I think he'll become a good shooter too but I don't think he has perfect form at all. On top of that, his release is slow, so that'll affect it in game play too. Excited to see how he looks in the beginning of the year.

My feeling is that we need him taking 150-200 as an experiment if nothing else.

His form is 100% excellent now. No weak spots at all. Oh, and his release got faster.

I think the range #'s for Giannis are deceptive because of a small sample. And the small sample reflects he's taking those shots heavily with opponent's backing off. 44.8% on a 2 still equates to a very bad ts%, but typically what makes it effective enough is that it's forcing a close out, which lowers that % naturally. He wasn't, yet.

That said, he made development, and he projects to stay on that plane with muscle memory adjustment. I think he'll at least be a reliable mid-range shooter this year, if not even a semi-reliable 3-point shooter. And within the next few years I think he'll be both. His form looks pretty good to me now: hands spread, balanced body, consistent release point at head, has touch; and his character is very high. He's humble enough to acknowledge his faults, but has enough pride to work obsessively to fix them.

We'll get a glimpse of where he's at this weekend.
