New Site: Woelfel's Press Box

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Thu Jun 2, 2016 6:01 pm

Maybe you guys saw this before, but I think he just went live today.

http://www.woelfelspressbox.com/#!guest-blogs/pwqz2/

Not sure if this means he's not affiliated with the Racine Journal Times or if this is a side venture.

This might be a good thread to bookmark where we can gauge accuracy of his predictions over the years. Personally I think he nails a ton of Bucks news stuff, but we get caught up in his opinion stuff, where he's many times not in tune with how the CBA works, cap ramifications, etc.

I think I made a website like this in middle school. If this is a professional venture... yeesh.

I fully expected that website to look like it was made in 1996.

He certainly has some sources, but the problem is he doesn't validate the tidbit and frequently passes along personal opinions as "whispers". But he is clearly tied into Larry Harris, probably McKinney or someone else in the scouting dept., and was spoon fed plenty from Larry Sanders fired agent, and obviously Butler and his agent. Would also guess Ernie Grumfield would be his other "league executive or official".

Again, I don't question that Woeflel has sources around the league. Scouts, GM's, former front office people, you name it, he knows a few. But for a guy who's been around the game as long as he has, his basketball-related opinions and obvious agendas are flat out cringeworthy and embarrassing. Thats what makes him such a hack. Gery should stick to reporting, not independently thinking.

Does he still do those shows with Sparky that look like they're filmed in his garage?

Yeah kind of like Sparky these days. I feel like a decade ago, he voiced his real opinions and they were solid. Now half of them seem like made for radio BS just to generate conversation. I get that it is his job but how can you trust any opinion that comes out of their mouth?

He'll always be the same, put out a bunch of predictions and when he happens to be right about something he pats himself on the back. It's possible he used to have an inside source or two but I put more stock in MBBOT than I do in him.

Say what you will about Woelfel -- I'm of the mind more Bucks news is better than less, especially considering how little we have currently.

And he nailed the Sanders story at a time when too many in our organization were blind to the problems. That said I'm still pissed how he made it seem Jabari would be fine the night he tore his ACL.

Just signed up for his newsletter, for better or worse.

But Gery...you really should find someone to help build your site. Or don't and we'll just continue to find your '96 era web sensibilities hilarious over here

Gery's still a hack. Anybody who paints him as an "insider" doesn't truly understand the definition of an insider.

For a guy who attends as many Bucks games as he does, it baffles me beyond belief how very little he understands the game. He's still stuck in the 1980s. He's a master of the box score stats, and knows nothing about modern statistics or analytics. In fact, he goes a step further and scoffs at them because he doesn't understand them.

He believes double double's and PPGz define the worth of a player and wouldn't know what a TS% was if it bit him square in the face. If any one of us on this board had a press pass, we would be able to do 10x more than Woelfel and demonstrate how lazy he is as a journalist.

I'll pass on the website.
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

With the name of his website I just can't get the Pee-wee's Playhouse theme song out of my head.

No, Sparky was always a moron. You've just gotten smarter.

I've never seen MBBOT and Gery in the same room together..... Have you?
