Re: WOJ: Giannis Extension - 4/100
Press conference now:
https://www.facebook.com/milwaukeebucks/videos/10153949170717817/
Giannis was just asked about not taking the 5 year max: "My agency we ended up the deal was to be here for 4+ years so that's what we decided and that's what happened."
I think ReasonablySober is right that Giannis probably wanted an option after year 4 and the Bucks came to a compromise.
Also I'm ok with Jabari having the incentive of the 5 year max to take his game to even greater heights.

Sounding like it was the Bucks that encouraged him to take a discount and he just went with it.

I really don't like that the Bucks are openly pressuring other players into taking less than the max. That's bulls*it.

I watched the presser and that's not how I heard it/understood it. Giannis, in my hearing, indicated he took less than the max to give the team flexibility and to show he's a "leader on and off the court". Meaning, he will put team first.

Agree. Makes us look like a second rate organization. Not a good look.

Khash, Greg and Jabari. I think Thon and Ennis was there too. Maybe more. No Vaughn tho, even tho he got the shout out from Giannis.

Not a fan of this at all. How the **** are you gonna put that on Giannis after it was your dumb ass that dished out 41M/yr to 3 mediocre centers? If he's the one offering to do it, cool, but if not, give him the max and be done with it. My god.

Re: WOJ: Giannis Extension - 4/100
It can be true that Giannis both wanted an out after 4 years as well as to make a gesture to the franchise by taking a few million dollars less than max.
This is a better situation for all involved than if he had insisted on an option after the 4th year making max money per year without a rationale at the ready for why he didn't do 5 years guaranteed.
However, let's be real here: the leaving money on the table part is mostly a symbolic gesture. $6 million over 4 years barely registers.
Let's not pretend like he took a Tim Duncan or Manu Ginobili like discount to allow us to pick up another star.
Yes we could sign a few more Steve Novak's for what Giannis left on the table though.

That was his first contract. Most people would want the max amount and length. Idk if Duncan took a discount on his rookie extension.
If Jabari leaves $1.5m too, that is $3m. When Khris hits the FA in 3 years those $3m can a really big deal.
No hay banda.

I'm still confused is the max really being saved for Parker?

Re: WOJ: Giannis Extension - 4/100
Nope.
Also, in case that didn't register with whomever watched it after Eric Nehm's questions, Giannis' side wanted the 4+1PO, the Bucks suggested 4 years with a reduced salary. 5-year straight max was apparently a no no from Giannis' agency.

Re: WOJ: Giannis Extension - 4/100
Reading other board's comments on this deal is hilarious. "In 2 years this will be a horrible deal for the Bucks" "He's so overrated" -- If Bazemore can get $19mil a year, I'd say this deal is extremely worth it. Maxed out would have been worth it too. Can't afford to let him even think about free agency.

So it's literally the exact thing I predicted.

His last year is $28 mil. He got it wrong.

Well hell, if Giannis leaving means you leave, then it may be worth it.

No, that tweet is not correct. It is not possible to jump from near $23 mil in year 1 to near $28 mil in year 2. Gardner must be suffering from CTE as a result of his constant rapid head nodding
