Poll/Discussion: Would you trade Middleton for the Nets Pick?

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Fri Feb 17, 2017 6:03 pm

We've got a week before another game so I'm tossing it out here because thought it was an interesting discussion from Sparky's show. Last night he and Terrell were talking about whether or not you'd trade Middleton to Boston for the 2017 Nets pick that is currently the #1 lotto seed by a large margin.

I'm not sure Boston makes that deal given Middleton's health and the fact that pick should now be guaranteed top four. That said, was an interesting hypothetical if Boston felt their window was this year and next year.

Tough choice, I haven't any opinion of this year's draft so I'll go with Midds, as I have a beyond irrational liking to him.

I clicked no, but I'm already rethinking it.

I think I actually would. Middleton being gone would allow us to potentially get another highish pick next year to add to Fultz (hopefully)/Giannis/Thon/Brogdon.

I would, but I don't think Boston would. Maybe they'd go for a Middleton and a pick swap.

Without a doubt, but Boston wouldn't. If you can pair Giannis with Fultz, you do it.

Yeah, don't look the gift horse in the mouth. I even entertained it last year when the #3 pick was confirmed to be on offer, though I wasn't actually advocating it and didn't like anyone enough in that draft to do it. Part of my reasoning for even considering it was how Middleton came to camp out of shape after getting his extension, and how that's a big red flag for me. Even if it's not a character issue but rather a player's natural metabolism, it's a huge risk factor for a lot of injuries. A normal person will gain a good deal of weight when injured, but most of these guys have such ridiculous metabolisms that they hardly gain any. Look at Westbrook's diet and how his knee injury didn't change him at all, for example.

That said, he clearly has the ridiculous skill set to approach the game like Pierce and save his legs. I'm not really worried about him coming back and being really good, but the question of the Bucks' window is a legitimate one and that pick is insanely tempting.

In the same camp as pretty much everyone: wouldn't happen, but absolutely.

no.
the better route would have been to tank this season as soon as Midds got injured.
trading away Monroe and every other bench piece for more picks and youngs.
then we could have been drafting at #5

G, Midds +1 more
with Brogdon, Thon and Jabari off the bench

Can't believe the vote is as close as it is. I'd add Monroe and Snell too to get the deal done. Rebuild around Giannis, Thon, Brogs, and 2 lottery picks in the upcoming draft.

I'm in your camp on this one. That said, the pick could end up 4th overall and the guy you pick be the next Johnny Flynn or OJ Mayo. While Middleton goes on to be some hybrid of Paul Pierce/Klay Thompson.

Definitely. I love Mids, but I'd do it in a heartbeat, mainly because of that injury being an unknown. Will it happen again, shorten his career, etc.

Yea.. but if you also give them Mids + Monroe. Our pick goes from #14 to probably a top 8 pick. Then you have 2 high picks and if you screw that up... then you don't deserve to be a contender.

I can't believe it either, but in a different way. It amazing that close to 90% were against it with Parker, but with Khris it's on track to be approved. I guess it says a lot about what the average fan thinks of Jabari vs. Khris.

Khris is also going to be 26 next season coming off of a significant injury, whereas Jabari was 21 at the time and he seems to have maintained his explosiveness after that first ACL tear. It's not necessarily a complete player-to-player comparison.

I'd do it but an unproven lottery pick for a proven shooter (which we really need) and a good defender (which we really need) who's just 25 scares the hell out of me. His hamstring does too though.

I can't see Boston doing this.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I voted no , people didn't want to trade Parker for that pick ,as they said we never know how good that player can be,i like Khris more than Parker so ..

If people are confident that a Giannis led team will be able to properly rebuild through tanking, then you should do it. Just hope he is patient to wait for the core around him to develop.

Depends how long it will take the top four pick to become a superstar. With Giannis we have about four years to start showing signs of a championship team.
