Doug Collins Turns Down the Bucks /Sund Leading Candidate

Post#1 » by mcfromage » Sun Mar 30, 2008 4:15 pm

I hadn't seen this posted elsewhere so feel free to lock if it has. Two reports from NY papers (including, yes, Vecsey).

Mitch Lawerence http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... walsh.html:

Doug Collins turned down the Bucks again when they approached him about coming in to run the whole show. He's told friends he likes the TV life too much to move from Scottsdale to Milwaukee.

Vecsey http://www.nypost.com/seven/03302008/sp ... htm?page=2

A Milwaukee hall monitor reveals accomplished executive Rick Sund (Dallas, Detroit, Seattle) is the leading entrant for the Bucks' GM vacancy. Tommy Sheppard (Wizards) Dennis Lindsey (Spurs) and David Griffin (Suns) also are in the mix. Doug Collins turned down the opportunity to coach and run the front office at $5M per season. He also rejected a $4M offer to do one or the other.

Also from some Cleveland paper http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?news ... 1848&rfi=6:

Another coach in the Central Division, Milwaukee's Larry Krystkowiak, is also expected to get the ax, a source said.

Sund? Oh for **** sakes. You've got two guys from two of the most successful teams in the league in the mix and the head runner is Sund.

Wow I can't wait until Sund comes here so that we can land the #3 pick, and watch him use it on some 7 foot stiff.

I'm going to edit the title of this thread to add the Sund part of it. I hope to God that doesn't happen. :nonono:
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Seattle made the playoffs twice in Sund's 6 seasons as GM.

That's the kind of "successful" GM Kohl wants.

Typical Bucks hire if it happens. If we dont promote from within the team than we bring in someone with ties to the franchise or has been here before. Some things will never change.

Sorry but I told you so................he is the only GM that vaguely fit the criteria Kohl layed out who would take the job..........when this happens it will be yet another sad day in the life of a once proud franchise.

http://hoopshype.com/general_managers/rick_sund.htm

2001 - Drafted Vlad Radmonovic #12 overall, one pick ahead of Richard Jefferson, also ahead of Zach Randolph, Tony Parker, Gilbert Arenas

2003 - Drafted Collison #12 overall, and Ridnour #14 overall, both ahead of David West, Boris Diaw, Josh Howard, Luke Walton, Mo Williams

2004 - Drafted Robert Swift #12 overall, ahead of Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, JR Smith, Jameer Nelson, Kevin Martin

2005 - Drafted Johan Petro #25, one pick ahead of Jason Maxiell, and five picks ahead of David Lee

2006 - Drafted Sear Sene #10, ahead of Thabo Sefalosha, Ronnie Brewer, Rajon Rondo

Guy is a horrible drafter. That's one of the worst track records among all NBA GMs. Basically everyone he ever drafted has been a bust.

This is Sund's draft history. Kohl and cronies, if you're reading this and are actually thinking about hiring this man, you can all go to hell.

Yep, this guy is trash. The only good pick he's made is Durant and a monkey could have made that selection.

Named Bob Weiss head coach.

January 3 2006
Fired head coach Bob Weiss and named Bob Hill interim head coach.

Like his big name coaches too.

Actually I think the new guy picked Durant, I'm fairly sure Sund was already gone.

Why wouldn't we go after somebody who's in a second-tier position with a really good team? Those guys want to move up the ladder and prove themselves. They might even put up with Kohl's crap. Sund as the leading candidate is f***ing ridiculous.

And what is our obsession with Doug Collins about? He was only a coach and it's not like he did it for 20 years. He coached 8 seasons and he was fired 3 times.

Most likely. Sund would have taken some 7 footer with no athletic ability.
