OT: Making the move

Post#1 » by DigitalFool » Mon Jun 9, 2008 9:31 pm

I'm officially making the move Milwaukee! (and DB, you thought I was going to be an RLI lifer :) )

Now my next step is to find a place to live. Could anyone give me suggetions of apartments/areas to stay away from or good recommendations you've heard good things about?

My fiance will be working in the West Allis area and I will be working in Waukesha. Hope to find something near both places like Brookfield/New Berlin.

I'm familiar with downtown, just not the burbs.

Brookfield and New Berlin are good choices. Lots of affordable apartments to rent, a bit cheaper in New Berlin.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

i used to be a mailman in brookfield, so if you have any questions i would be happy to answer. brookfield hills apts are the most affordable and are at a good location (greenfield and moorland). but overall brookfield is pricey, but is probably worth it because the neighborhoods are excellent.

I had a duplex in Brookfield for a couple of years and loved living there. It was in the northern area, near Capital and Calhoun. I had friends who lived in Brookfield Hills, boy those were some fun, wild times. Nice place.

You should move to Hartland to play cribbage and bridge with all of us snobs.

Racine? Try like the 28th best city.

That is one of the most affordable and nicest places you'll find in the New Berlin area, or at least it was for me. I was going to move there in April but the person that was leaving the only 1 bedroom apartment that they had available, decided to re-up his lease.

They were on my call list - unfortunately they don't have any available units now. Thanks for the input!

I called there too - the guy was kind of a jerk on the phone. Prices were reasonable, but nothing available either.

Out of 14 places, only 3 had immediate units. I'm not shocked...ahhh the joys of moving (and getting married oh and a new job).

Theres another apartment complex called The Fountain Square that I also thought was really nice. I decided not to go there due to some of the poor treatment I got from some of the management though.

No, I thought we were just talking about Wisconsin but I was talking about southeast Wisconsin only. In Wisconsin it's about 5,847 and in the world it's 7,924,851.

Bayview is an up and coming neighborhood. Kind of blue collar, but getting the yuppie renovation treatment ala the third ward . I was at the Sugar Maple Bar down there last weekend, you'd have the best beer in Milwaukee on tap if that's an added bonus.
