This is a great piece remembering Len Bias that I wanted to post here especially for the younger guys who may not know the story. There are a ton of lessons in this article and it is well worth the long read.
Oh what could have been... better than Jordan they said, we can only imagine.

Not to take over your thread or anything but here's a similar story on James Felton on ESPN.com.

Yeah I read that story last week. Interesting how much information has been uncovered over time. Call me skeptical, but i highly doubt that was indeed his first time doing it. It sounded like he started living that sort of "fancy"/coke lifestyle months before that. As for the Jordan thing, the more its brought up, the more I tend to think its one of those ability inflated by early death things. Of course we'll never know for sure though. It sounded like his younger brothers story was more tragic.
The way that piece reveals the impact Bias' death had on the Laws was pretty amazing. I never knew about that aspect of it before.

Yeah the whole mandatory minimums thing was really interesting - so ironic that a friend of his and his brother's ended up paying a massive price due to the mandatory minimum sentencing influenced by his death.
A great read on a really interesting and sad story. Thanks for the link, look forward to the doco.

No question the Bias legacy has been enhanced through dying a tragic death. He was a great prospect but I'm not sure he really was any better a prospect than Beasley. I think maybe Beasley is better actually. Bill Simmons and Celtics fans have done their part over the years to convince us that he would have been as good or better than Bird and but for his death that team would have another 5 titles.

Re: Len Bias
Pretty the tragically premature deaths of Len Bias and Drazen Petrovic, the NBA missed out on some potentially great careers.
97-98
Nick Van Exel (LAL) on defending the Stockton-Malone pick-and-roll: "Yeah,
I got a way to defend it. Bring a bat to the game and kill one of them."

Yeah, I didn't know that either, unbelievable.
Sad story though, and the James Felton story was even worse. Really puts things in perspective.

Yeah, at least Draz got to wear the infamous Tie Dye Nets unis.

But who knows if he was ever coming back to the NBA if the accident hadnt happened? I mean the rumors about him signing with a european team seem like they could have been legit.
As for the Felton story, I dont even know what to think. I mean the way they put it, its hard to figure out what would have helped him. Say that doesnt happen, and he continues with basketball, how long does that last if he really didnt like it much? Overall its just such a sad story, yet not an uncommon one of alcohol aiding someones death.
