Are they going to wear a utility belt with underwear over their shorts too? Maybe one of those mini-capes that Dwight Howard wore at the dunk contest...

Well the Fighting Banana Slugs and the Mad Ants were already taken.

I'm assuming they're going to play AC/DC (you know "Thunderstruck") constantly throughout the game to get the crowd pumped. I'm already annoyed by it.

I'd go with "Menace" first, than "Desperados" second.

Milwaukee Menace sounds pretty good, I think -keep it for a hockey team etc...

As petty as it seems, this actually makes losing the Sonics a little more palatable. Thunder? Really? It sounds like the remaining Seattle pro basketball team should be playing them. "Storm v Thunder. The ultimate envrionmental beatdown!!!"

Maybe it won't be the Thunder after it's all said and done:

Barons, Thunder among 6 nicknames league seeks for OKC

Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The NBA has filed for trademark rights to six nicknames for the league's new Oklahoma City franchise: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind.

An attorney for the league made the filing Monday with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Marshal is usually spelled with one l. It's not clear why the league used a variant spelling.

The filing is listed on the patent office's Web site.

The NBA and the team have refused to discuss possible new names for the team formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics ahead of an official announcement, which has not yet been scheduled.

Wow, one worse than the next. Barons is probably the best of the bunch, followed closely by 'the team formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics'. As for the bolded part...

My god, they are actually considering naming their team after our cheerleaders. That would have been a great moment when they first visited the Bucks and Energee was announced. Judging by the brainpower exhibited here, this franchise will implode in 3 years max.

I hope they choose "wind." That will drive the logo designers nuts.

Thunder is the mascot of the Golden State Warriors

and Marshal is misspelled as pointed out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshal

The American English spelling of the name ("Marshall") is often confused with the spelling of the title ("Marshal"). It is approximate to the position of Constable, of similar etymology.
The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.

Actually they didn't misspell Marshall at all - everyone is assuming they meant the gun-toting kind when in fact they wanted to be called the Marshalls in honor of two of the greatest U.S. Supreme Court justices ever, John Marshall and Thurgood Marshall. OKC's rumored black and gold team colors are clearly an homage to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist's bold fashion-statement robes.

My vote would be for Marshals

But they really need to spell it properly :)

They already have two Marshalls in OKC. One in the Penn Park Mall, and another at Town Center Plaza.

i hate this trend towards naming teams after weather conditions. i can't stand team names like the magic, the heat, storm, thunder, wind, energy... it's all rubbish. i like the old-school approach - pick an animal or something a little less abstract. those names are gonna go down in history alongside the crappy, graphic-heavy uniforms of the 90's.

my vote goes to the barons.

I agree. Use something that almost nobody uses like the Wildcats!

How about the Oklahoma City Noodlers? If you don't know what noodling is, it's basically reaching down into a pond or a lake, hoping a catfish bites down on your arm and then pull it out of the water.
