I'm a little offended by PP's Arkansas comment. Arkansas is usually the place where two unrelated people get married and have about 20 kids. Alabama is where incest happens.

No, it's second cousins. Their parents are first cousins. So GAD is first cousin, once removed to her parents, as she is to his. They are second cousins to each other.

Dropping one generation on one side only simply adds a number to "Xth removed". Dropping one generation on both sides adds an entire number to the "Yth cousins" deal.

Ironically I am related to Carrie Underwood the same way.

All though I have never met her, and when my mom told me I was related to her I said "who is Carrie Underwood". Had no clue who she was until she started dating Tony Romo.
